My 1hr 16min Birth Story

I just discovered this board and have really enjoyed reading everyone's stories so I thought that I would share mine from my third child.

At 32w3d I went into preterm labor with my son Nate. Fortunately after a 2 day hospital stay they were able to get my labor under control and I was released to home on strict bedrest already 3cm and 30%. They were hoping to keep me pregnant until at least 34 weeks. 34 weeks came and went, 35, 36, 37, 38 weeks gone. Finally at 39 weeks I was starting to get restless. My DD was born at 38 weeks and after going into PT labor with this pregnancy I had expected to have DS long before this. I, of course, tried every old wives tale to induce labor and none worked.

Finally, at 39w3d I begged my DH to have sex with me in the hopes of bringing on labor. Of course, I went to bed that night disappointed that still nothing. Lo and behold, I woke up that night at 1:18AM to my water breaking in bed. There was no question what it was (my water also broke with my first two pregnancies) so I immediately woke up DH and called my OB's office and my Mom (she was coming over to watch my older kids).

While we were waiting for my Mom to get there and for my OB to call back I started cleaning up a little bit and even loaded the dishwasher. About 30 minutes after my water broke my Mom arrived I was just starting to get some contractions, which in the beginning felt more like menstrual cramps. My OB called a few minutes later and about 50 minutes after my water broke we headed to the hospital.

It was at this point that my contractions started coming on hard and fast, they were 60-90 seconds long coming every 2-3 minutes, they were literally on top of each other. It was so bad that my DH was actually running redlights, he was afraid that I was going to have the baby in the car. After 10 minutes (1hr after my water broke) we arrived at the hospital. it being the middle of the night, all the doors were locked. My DH was able to flag someone down in the main lobby and they opened the door and took me up to L&D while my DH parked the car.

1hr and 5 minutes after my water broke I was up in L&D. The contractions were nonstop at this point. Trying to change out of my street clothes into a gown turned out to be too difficult and the nurse had to help dress me because I couldn't get up off of the bathroom floor. The resident came in to check me right away and found that I was already at 8cm and 100% effaced. At this point he asked me if I wanted an epidural and *I* had to tell him that I didn't think that there would be time.

Now, the rest of this is kind of a blur. DH arrived sometime after the resident left and I was immediately feeling pressure. I told DH to grab the nurse and that I was ready to push. The resident came back in and checked me and I was 10cm already. One GIANT push and DS made his way into the world at 2:34AM, exactly 1hr and 16min after my water broke. My OB arrived 15 minutes later.

Now, keep in mind that my entire labor with my DD was only 1hr and 34min, so I'm pretty sure that if we ever have another baby, it just might fall out

I'm so jealous...I had a friend with a similar story--the doc had to wake her up to push and after one push her DD was out...second baby was just as easy...you guys are lucky ducks!
