The dreaded stomach bug

edited December 2014 in January 2013 Moms
I have been dreading this day but it appears DD has a bug. She has a bad cough so I thought she gagged herself...but now she has thrown up 3 times. I'm scared to put her to bed in case she vomits again. She was so scared the first time. She seems in good spirits in between vomiting. And of course I am a wreck. I don't do well with vomit and of course DH is at work. Praying this passes quick and I don't get it.

Any tips? I already gave her a Popsicle. And going to get some pedialyte tomorrow.

Re: The dreaded stomach bug

  • Poor girl! We had the stomach bug last week. It was awful. I don't really have any tips, as we just went into survival mode. I did put a lot of towels down on the bed and couch (it made clean up a bit easier).

I hope she feels better soon.

  • Oh gosh mama I'm sorry. This bug the puking has only lasted about twelve hours ( we were told this by our doc and pharmacist and then it ended up true). Water, popsicles, half juice, etc. I started DD on the over the counter probiotics to help her guts once the puking stopped. And wash wash wash your hands and bleach what you can. I actually didn't get it this time (DD had it once when she was a year) but I was militant this time having learned from round one! Good luck, thank God this stuff goes fast.

  • Thanks ladies! So far (knock on wood, cross fingers, pray!) I am feeling ok. I took a big swig of apple cider vinegar last night as this started. Keeping your acidity higher is supposed to help ward away stomach bugs. Also drank 100% grape juice which is also supposed to help. @MichieU79‌ my DH thankfully returned at 6 am this morning.

We're having an easy day of rest, cuddles, Popsicles and pedialyte. She hasn't thrown up since around 4 and woke up in a fairly good mood. She did have one small diarrhea episode but praying the worst is behind us now. It was terrible watching her be so scared/upset/sick.

Thank you for the support! Continue to hope/pray the rest of the family stays well. The scent of vomit with my super pregnancy sniffer nose was not fun! On a positive note--entered the 2nd trimester today!

  • So sorry! We had the stomach bug when DS was around 15 months and it was awful. I came down with it about 48 hours after he had gotten it and DH came down with it shortly after I did. Luckily, DH didn't have it nearly as bad as I did. Even now with DS gets sick and I am paranoid that he might throw up, I put sheets and towels all over the beds and couches. She may not want to eat a ton for a day or two after she stops vomitting. DS was that way and I was worried something was wrong---till I went through it myself. I didn't feel 100% back to normal until almost a week after it all.

Sounds like you're doing all the right stuff! We had it last year and it was killer.

Keep up the cuddles and rest!
