Poll: I was wondering...(continued from the "shaving thread")

I know it's not Wednesday, but I have poll questions for the ladies that shave. (https://forums.thebump.com/discussion/12501648/shaving-the-downstairs/p1). I clip, as in I use DH clippers and trim down there. I will shave the bikini area to the skin though. I have shaved everything before and it's sooo itchy and feels like velco on my undies. For me, it's the worst feeling ever, so that's why I clip. Although I haven't done it in a while out of laziness. I ask this because I asked DH what he wanted for Christmas as I was getting dressed one morning. He looks at me and says "I don't know, but I know what I'm getting you, a bush trimmer!" I just gave him a blank stare. I would love to try waxing, but I'm nervous of the pain. So, on to the poll options...

  • I voted that I wax but I'm not as consistent as I would like to be because of budget. When I don't wax, I trim really close.

  • I shave everything. It's getting really hard now to do it by memory lol.

  • SS - au natural right now. I do shave/trim with scissors when I can see what I'm doing, but I haven't been able to do that for a while now.
^^ This is me. I'm ready to bring out the mirror.

  • I tried trimming a week or so ago and totally cut myself. AH I gave up.

  • I had been just trimming until last week. Now that I'm getting to the every two week appointments and shit is starting to get real, I try to keep clipped as short as possible. Last time, I went a little too short (almost bald), so I can skip it this week.
I think that once I hit 37 weeks, I will keep it closer to bald.  I know I'll be shaved by the nurses when I am prepped for surgery anyway, so I may as well clean up as well as I can before they dive in.

  • Normally i'm au natural except for when I want to surprise Dh, but I'm wondering if shaving or waxing will be beneficial to dealing with the post partum mess?

  • At this point I'd be doing what ever you are most comfortable with! Since I haven't been shaving mine down all the way my DH has let his grow. He knows it's hard for me to do it. Plus we haven't done the dirty since I've become pregnant cause I was put on permanent pelvic rest for my whole pregnancy. So do what you feel is best.
  • SS:

I shave all the way down to the skin normally.  I go get waxed when I'm able to pay for it!  I trim with DH's trimmers when I don't feel like shaving (or can't reach, like now!).

  • SS: For the most part I leave it natural, and trim it when it gets too long or I feel like a change. I never shave it completely anymore, dealing with the aftermath was just itchy and awful.

  • TMI: I just recently tried to use clippers (my usual landscaping method) and cut myself. FYI things are closer than they appear while using a mirror.

  • I shave a superwoman emblem down there. ;)

    Hahahaha.

Here's a story for you. I was innocent to the ways of shaving for a long time, then was introduced to it on a message board. I shared my new knowledge with my SIL who then felt brave enough to own up to her own story. She was at the birth of one of my kids. She saw the doc swirling his finger in the hair and was just nearly ready to jump up and punch him when she realized it was the baby's hair as he was crowning. =D
  • I use to keep myself well groomed by trimming and shaving but with the recent development of my lovely lady bumps it has become a workout to see what's what down there. I'm almost to the point of asking for a bit of assistance from the husband! (Ha jk lol)

  • I typically shave to the skin with a razor. But after trying out waxing this summer (easier to maintain for spontaneous pool outings and such) I like it better. When I shave, as the hair grows out I get ingrown hairs and itch like crazy. With waxing it hurts while the hair is being removed, but I haven't noticed any itching or nearly as many ingrown hairs. I just started getting waxed again, as I cannot see down there anymore, and would rather just pay someone to clean me up than get a neck ache trying to shave and not cut myself. Plus I hope it'll help keep the postpartum maintenance easier.

  • Religious waxer for almost 10 years now.  Buying a package of waxes helps with the cost (where I go a 6 pack gets you one free, a 12 pack gets you 2 free I think) and also keeps you motivated to make the appts.  With pregnancy I've been REALLY good about scheduling every 4 weeks bc I'm afraid it'll hurt too much if I go longer.  But seriously it's not bad, and it's over in 10 mins.  So much better than shaving.

  • SS.
I would love to get my legs and lady bits waxed every time. However, I find it cost prohibitive.
No matter what I do, different razors/lotions/exfoliants/etc. I seem to be doomed to crazy razor burn and ingrowns. As a result, I get pretty lazy about shaving most of the time, but I do try to keep things trim.
I usually use the clippers on the shortest guard against the growth. Then on my legs I'll shave against the growth. On the lady bits, I'll shave with the growth if I'm feeling the need for less hair and against it if I'm feeling masochistic.

  • I trim the front and shave to the skin on my bikini line. I also shave my under carriage.
  • Got my kitty professionaly shaved.

  • Full wax every 6 weeks for the last 5 years and it has gotten less painful over time and also much less grows back at this point. A friend of mine lasered it off which I would gladly do-I can't stand hair down there anymore.

  • I used to do Brazilian waxes but the ingrown hairs were annoying me so I splurged and got the laser hair removal for all of it.

It worked pretty well, some grew back with DS pregnancy (they say hormones can do that), but it is really fine and blonde now (the laser kills all the dark course hair) so for maintenance I just use the trimmers and kept it really short.
