NCDR: Calling all ketchup (and booze) fans...

Ketchup and booze?

image

Yep, that's right.  Ketchup and booze.  You see, I love me some bloody mary's.

image

And I also love my homemade ketchup.

image

But as you all know, because I won't stop blabbering on and on and on... and on and on... and on about... I have food restrictions thanks to my gorgeous, wonderful, adorable, sweet, darling P.

image

So my question is... could I make a bloody mary base out of my homemade ketchup recipe?  And if so, what else would it need?  If it helps, I use @stoneycake's ketchup recipe.  Ready, set, go!

  • Why?  Because I love bloody mary's and ketchup.  And I have a really good ketchup recipe, that is basically just tomatoes, onion, garlic, coconut sugar, and seasoning.  So I guess I'm worried about it being too sweet.

  • Make a glass and try it?
    Well there's always that.

Maybe mix the ketchup, hot sauce, horseradish, and some plain tomato juice?  And of course, vodka.

Skip the sugar and just add the spices to tomato juice.

  • Yeah.  Too sweet and vinegary.  I'd do it with tomato juice, hot sauce, celery salt, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish.   You're going to have to suck it up and make that homemade Worcestershire sauce and tell me how it is ;)

And that is how you make a bloody mary from scratch.

    nom nom nom

I did this with the Bloody Mary hot sauce I got from someone.
    ;)

  • TJ, did you a reaction to Lea and Perrins?  The ingredients look okay to me except for the damn "natural flavorings."  Is that usually an issue for you?

  • It wasn't that brand, it was a different brand.  And she legit reacted, big time.  And yes, "natural flavorings" has been a culprit multiple times.  Such bs.
