Using the bathroom with LO

Lo and I were at Target the other day.  I left the stroller in the car because I was going to put her in the cart, and I was getting too much stuff to put it in the stroller anyway.  Before I got a cart I took her in the bathroom to change her diaper, and realized I needed to go too.  The changing table was when you first walked in, not in a stall so I of course couldn't leave her buckled onto the changing table.

I really had to go, and LO cannot stand on her own yet so I had to lay her changing pad down on the floor in the stall and lay her on it.  It yucked me out, but I didn't see any other alternative.  I thought about trying to pee with her on my lap, but I had jeans on and I envisioned getting stuck, and not being able to get my jeans back up while holding her.  So, what do you guys do?

Re: Using the bathroom with LO

  • She'd be a lap rider. She does it at home sometmes, plus bathroom floor sick me out!

  • When I've been in your situation (and I have been, many times in the past), I change the diaper, then LO sits on my lap, even if I'm wearing jeans and it takes 5 minutes to get them up and zipped again.
Bathroom floors disgust me (especially public ones).
If LO could stand holding my hands AND was wearing shoes, I'd let him stand holding me.

Otherwise, I'd go get the cart and come back to the bathroom for my business.

  • I would either put him on my lap, or go get the cart and put him in there and go to the family RR or the handicap stall. My LO would have been rolling all over the floor; he would not have stayed on the changing pad. I can see it now, roll away baby on the RR, greeting all the ladies as they are peeing. Haha

Yes this!  My LO would crawl all over the floor if I tried that.  If I really had to go, I'd do this too

  • Pretty much same as you, plop Levi inside the stall with me and/or leave door open and try to pee quick before he crawls away or tries to stand up!  It is difficult but it gets a little easier in time.  When they can stand on their own for more than .85 seconds they can stand inside the stall.
  • We really have bullshit options. I wish stores would consider this before they build their stupid bathrooms.

  • Our Target has a family restroom. I'll take an empty shopping cart in with me and plop LO in the seat on the cart. It's right by customer service to I usually let the people at the desk know what I'm doing.

I've held him while peeing in a gas station bathroom when we were on a road trip. It's an adventure.

  • At the store, I always have LO in a shopping cart or in his stroller, so when I have to go I leave him in the cart/stroller and take the entire thing into the handicap stall with me. I don't care if it's crowded; other people can get outta the way! haha. but really, everyone has been really nice about it. I think most parents understand.

I've only maybe twice been out with LO in his ergo when I had to go. I left him strapped to me (thank goodness I was wearing yoga pants) and just kinda lifted the entire thing up a bit so it was out of the way.

  • I've been wondering about this! I don't like any of the options given...haha.

Our mall has little seats you can buckle them into in the handicap stalls....guess I'd beeline for one of those bathrooms.
My friend was telling me about those, I'll have to keep an eye out and remember which bathrooms have any if I find some

  • I always just hold her on my lap and pee. Stand up, hold her while pulling up my pants with 1 hand. Way too skeeved to ever put her on the floor, changing pad or not!  How tight are your jeans that you would get stuck?

  • Lap! Bathroom floors are nasty!!!!
  • E has never been a fan of me wearing her do that is out. She's not mobile yet so she stayed put, though at home she rolls and wiggles all over but in the stall she just kind of laid there like OMG, why did my mom put me here. Hopefully soon she can stand while I hold her hand and it won't be as big of a problem. Then I'll find a new problem

  • Not to say I think a public bathroom floor is clean, and I certainly wouldn't put her there for fun, but I have to laugh at everyone saying they would never do it. I guess most just dont want to think about how nasty everyday stuff is that you touch? Doorknobs, hand rails, money...

This! They have done some funny studies about the places most teeming with bacteria. IIRC door handles were worse than toilet seats.

  • I have this issue when I take Isla to swim. I have to get changed, and there's nowhere to put her. I put her on the floor in the changing stall, and she tries to crawl around. It's gross, but I don't know what else to do.

I bought a really cheap, little umbrella stroller that I put LO in while I change after swimming. Works great!

no shit, some of the comments are just about hilarious... It is also possible in case you all don't know to wash your baby's hands, after you wash you own... just a thought
