Shoe Size

I know it can depend on brand, but what's a pretty good way to determine or how do you measure against? I've seen at home devices but they don't start until 2T. He's 7.5 months and we live in AZ so I never put him in any of the shoes that filled our closet, but when I actually wanted to, for pics, he had outgrown them all. Thanks!

Re: Shoe Size

  • I only put shoes when we go to church or dress up for other things like that. I just hold his foot up to the bottom of the shoe to see if it has room. He's wearing a size 4 now. DS1 had tiny feet so he was walking in size 4, so we have lots of size 4 shoes.

  • Great! Thanks so much! Just planning ahead really with sales. He has pretty big feet and is crawling, and trying to stand up on his own- it's coming. I will miss the no shoes days.
  • My MIL is hell bent in DS wearing shoes. She for him a pair of actual boots from wal-mart. I think they are size 3? I feel like they are too big but I can't really tell.
  • My kid barely wears socks, let alone shoes. We do live in az, and I don't plan on putting shoes on him til he's walking.

I would tell her, thanks but no thanks. Real boots? Like w/ soles? No way.

Yeah! Real boots with thick soles. I only put them on him when she's around.
  • I only have bought Robeez soft soled bootie things for LO. No shoes till he's walking, and probably not even always then. I hate shoes and socks for babies- they're usually more trouble than they're worth. :-)

  • I used a ruler to measure LO's foot and then compared it to the measurements on the website I was ordering from. LO has massive feet and will at least be in a size 5 by the time he's walking. My mom told me that I wore a size 2 shoe as a newborn (not sure why she was putting shoes on me that young but whatever) so I'm not surprised that he has huge feet.

  • Thanks all! Appreciate it and will use these tips when he's ready and hold off on buying ahead. He gets kinda warm and since we live in a warm climate, we don't even put socks on him. DH insists the baby gets hot and that he has the "same body temp" as himself (which is too cute to disagree with the logic of that). He enjoys eating his feet too. Totally convinced to find something else to stress about for a few months, Lol. Thanks!!!
  • At carters, they have a little comparison booklet that you can hold up to LO's feet to find the size. We figured out Evan was a 3.5. I got a pair of Robeez for when it's cold, and asked for the next size up for Christmas since he doesn't have a ton a growing room and it'll be nice to have the next ones on hand.

No plans for real soled shoes for a long time yet :)

  • I have two pairs of moccasins for my LO mostly for when it's cold outside. I bought them from etsy and they just had me measure his feet and tell her how many inches. We also have a pair of sperrys for looks and I don't remember the size but I told my mom to go big so he can at least grow into them!
  • we just bought shoes at stride right for Logan this past weekend.  He went from rolling to crawling to standing EVERYWHERE in 2 weeks.  Anyway they measured his foot and so he has room to grow we went with a 4.5.  It actually helped him play more at wiggle works, and easier for him to grip then in socks.  He has only worn them there so far, for the most part he's barefoot or in socks.
