Cloth Diapering

Stomach Sleeper Leak

Hey Ladies,

My 18 month old (girl) is a stomach sleeper and we haven't had any issues with leaks until the past few weeks (especially the past week).  We had been using Freetimes at night without additional hemp with no issues.  We added hemp under the flaps which seemed to help one or 2 nights.  This morning she woke up COMPLETELY soaked all over.  I don't think it is a repelling issue because I just stripped recently AND the front part of the diaper (including the hemp below) is completely soaked through.  The rest of the diaper is mostly dry.  It definitely has to do with her sleeping position.  I need some tips to prevent the leaks!  We have only used cloth since she came home from the NICU and this is our first major issue.  We have had the same issue with our pockets with hemp at night too.  I had one successful night with a prefold, hemp inside and a fleece topped doubler on top of that.  I would really like to solve the issue by using my current stash if possible (mostly pockets- BG, Rumparooz, fuzzibunz. GMD prefolds with covers, Freetimes)  HELP!

I think you answered your own question.  :)

  • We had a couple of leaks with FTs at night, so I bought a Sbish VHLC to try under a Flip cover. We're trying it for the first time tonight-- I'll let you know if it's better!

(I realize this isn't solving the problem with your current stash... but... maybe it will help)!

  • Haha.  Yes @freezorburn.  I should have said that we need to buy the next size up of prefolds and covers.  I'd like to try to solve the issue with pockets or FTs.  I'd rather not have to buy more diapers at this point, but will use the prefolds while we can make them work.  Thanks!

  • Other than playing with the absorbency, do you think there is any possibility that it could be a fit issue? I'm guessing at 18 months LO is probably getting more mobile and that can sometimes mean a change in body shape that leads to diapers not fitting as well as they need to, to hold in moisture.

Why not "at this point"?  Do you think LO will be PT soon?  Do you think she's going to start peeing less overnight?

  • Thanks ladies!  Y'all have been a huge help.  The prefolds working better makes sense now.

@TJ1979 We don't want to buy more diapers now for financial reasons.  We have PLENTY of pockets and hemp/doublers and would rather use what we have to solve the problem than spend more money.  I understand that we may need to try something else, but I wanted to see if anyone had ideas for how to maybe better use what we have.  And she isn't peeing that much overnight, she's just peeing in the front part of her diaper.
