Ready for Christmas?

How are you feeling about being ready for Christmas??? I just had a moment of panic when I realized it's just over a week away! So....

What's Done?

What's Not Done?

What are you ok with skipping this year?

Re: Ready for Christmas?

  • What's Done? The house is decorated and I have our Christmas cards. I have figured out DHs gift. We have bought MILs gift.

What's Not Done? Addressing and sending cards, shopping for my parents, nephew, and nieces (family gathering Saturday), finish details of DHs gift (night away on the 26th), lots of deadlines for work this week before school let's out for break, figuring out gift for LO ...we were buying him a bouncer but our neighbors loaned us an awesome one. Still want to figure out something small, stocking stuffers

Skipping? Extra cooking and fancy Christmas dinner. I think we will grill steaks or order in. Christmas Eve, our church has a big service in the parking lot that we love, but we aren't sure yet if taking LO will be best. Trying to decide about visits to friends.

  • Done: My shopping...special thanks to amazon.com. Also tree has been up since after Thanksgiving as well as other decorations that DD loves to look at. Mailed all of my Christmas cards.

Not Done: Any gift wrapping...thanks to DH who says he will take care of it

Skipping: Hosting Christmas Eve which I have done the past couple of years. I have to work and am looking forward to having a quiet evening with DH and the best gift of all, DD!

  • Everything is done and I'm not doing any more. I have everything wrapped, shopping is done, christmas cards are done and mailed house is decorated...

ok there is one thing we need to do...we need to put together the gingerbread train.

I'm not looking forward to christmas...every yr it seems to get more and more depressing for me.

  • Done: house decorated and tree up, mailed all presents to out of state family, shopping for LO.

Not done: shopping for DH ( have no idea what to get him this year... What are you ladies buying for yours ?). Clean house, wrap a few more presents, grocery shop before mom gets here on Friday.

Skipping: the homemade gifts. Every year I make some edible goodies for neighbors, co workers, etc. I just don't have the time or patience this year, and I'm totally ok with that!
  • I have done pretty much nothing. We sent out cards and bought two gifts. I'm planning to go shopping on Saturday...that's going to be a nightmare.

  • Decorations complete.

Skipping cards as I wanted snow in the picture (we live in Iowa, you'd think there would be snow) and it is too late now.

Shopping is complete as of last night and I have just 1 box left to wrap.

  • Done - Tree and outside decorations (Thank You DH!).  I have shopped for everyone except my father, I was a HUGE on-line shopper this year. X-mas cards sent.

Not Done - Wrapping I don't even have the paper yet.  Get enlargements printed of LO to go in the frames I bought for all the different branches of family.  Clean my mess of a house - this is kind of pointless due to MIL so maybe I'll move it to the Skip list LOL!

Skipping - No fancy meal on x-mas day, I will have immediate family over but we will have steak sandwiches or something easy.

  • weeklyplanner I am with you, this thread is giving me anxiety.  How do people have time to get stuff done?

Done - Most of the gift shopping, thank you Amazon.  Tree is up and mostly decorated.  The forth bedroom is FINALLY cleaned out and we got slates to put the extra mattress on the bed frame that we have, so now all guests have a room and bed to sleep on.  Ordered (yes, that is right, ordered) Christmas cards last night (I am counting that as a check, even though they may not be ready till Dec. 24th, and we will still have to address them all and send them out)
We have a schedule all put together in Excel for the family visit with meals, events, etc planned out.

Not Done - Lots of cleaning.  Move more stuff to the attic/make a huge donation trip to Good Will.  More cleaning.  Wrap gifts.  Gifts for 3 more people.  Get food for guests for a week and for Christmas dinner.  More cleaning.  Gifts for the daycare ladies.  Send out Christmas cards.  I know that there is more…

Skipping - Travel!  Yes, we will have 6 people staying with us for close to a week, but I am glad that we are not traveling across the country this year like we have always done in the past.  I may regret this statement come Sunday...

  • Done- tree is up and house decorated.

Not done- most of the shopping, all of the wrapping, all of the cleaning.

Skipping- usually go crazy with the baking. Since I'm off dairy and chocolate for LO, that's probably not happening!
  • Surprisingly, I'm ready for Chanukah and Christmas.

I'm ready but I'm not excited about it...

  • You all have made me realize that also not done is gifts for daycare teachers and my boss! Gift cards will be easy!
  • What's Done? Shopping, Christmas Cards and Baking

What's Not Done? Cleaning the house (my inlaws are celebrating with us this weekend so this needs to get done asap) and I really want to get his picture taken with Santa but I do not want to wait in a long line so I am hoping to go in the morning next week since this week is shot with all the cleaning that has to be done.

What are you ok with skipping this year? Holiday dinner is not anything extravagant; we have gone all out in the past but this year we are keeping it simple and taking I you don't like it don't eat it approach. Both our families have some picky eaters who we have catered to in the past not doing it this year.
  • What's Done? All gift shopping

What's Not Done? Wrapping presents and assembling the big gifts. I also need to grocery shop for our dinner groceries.

What are you ok with skipping this year? We skimped on the stockings but oh well. I wanted to have better table decorations but that's not happening either.

  • Done: decorations

Not done: I haven't planned the holiday menu or exactly what we are doing yet! Not one single present bought.

Skipping: Christmas cards, and whatever I can

BF birthday is two days later and he's turning 30 so more focused on planning a dirty thirty bash!
  • edited December 2014

Done: Dinner is planned, meat is ordered.; house cleaning crew scheduled for Monday, presents wrapped and under the tree (the 2 Santa boxes are in my closet)'decorations are out

Not Done: I thought I was done with Christmas shopping but the one gift I had the hardest time picking out was lost in the mail or in the warehouse- it said it was shipped but 15 days later, nothing so I called. They are out of the item now. I'm just so disappointed.

Christmas Cards were to go out the past 3 weekends but I was sick for two of them and working one of them so they haven't been touched yet.

Skipping: Travel. This year we host. You'd think it would be stressful but it doesn't phase me.

  • We're hosting everyone this year because no one wants to miss DD's first Christmas. My parents and sisters will get here Christmas Eve (thank god they are staying in a hotel) and stay until boxing day (that's the day after Christmas for those of you in the US). The in-laws get here on Christmas day and are staying until Dec 30. And SIL and her family will get here on the 26th and stay until the 30th as well.

Done: Shopping, wrapping, decorating, and cards are sent out. Have also ordered the turkey, a deli platter, and all the bread we will need.

Not done: Baking and grocery shopping. Fortunately I have a plan for meals and I know what I need to bake and buy. I just have to find time to do it. Probably this weekend.

Skipping: Nothing that I can think of. I've been organizing for this since shortly after Halloween. Fortunately FI has been a big help with most things.

  • We/I haven't done anything Christmas related this year yet. Don't have a tree, haven't bought presents.. not too sure what I'm planning on doing about it. Don't know why just not feeling it this year. Next year when DS is older I will go all out though
  • Done: shopping and wrapping (minus the couple of things that haven't come in the mail yet). And the tree is up.

Not done: cleaning. Baking. Gifts for the family. Christmas cards. Pretty much everything else.

Skipping: maybe all of the above? I will at least make sure that the living room is clean enough for Christmas unwrapping pics. Beyond that... Not much.

  • What's done: House decorated, gifts bought, stockings finished, Christmas Cards sent,

What's left: wrapping, DH's stocking, and making the freezer meal packs for my aunts and uncles (it's their gift this year as none of them cook).
