9 week ultrasound - bizarre results

I had my 9 week us today and the baby looks healthy and adorable - yay!

The surprise is that a previously empty second sac now has a yolk sac in it. At my 6 and 7 week scan (I did ivf so i have a lot) the sac was totally empty and my RE said it might even be just a bleed. Obviously at 9 weeks there would need to be way more than a yolk sac to consider this a second viable pregnancy but I am just wondering what is going on. My OB showed the results to the other doctors t the office and they agreed it was strange to see the second sac "progressing" so late in the game and hadn't seen it before. I go back in one week. Has anyone heard of this? I tried google but couldn't find anything!

For fun, here is the pic of our healthy little been sprout. They obviously didn't print a pic of the "mystery sac."

  • I am not sure if this is relevant, and not sure what this phenomenon is know as medically, but a friend of a family had an IVF done, through which one baby was given life. Two weeks later they noticed a second sac, with a baby developing two weeks behind through the whole pregnancy. It turns out that the second baby was a "fluke" most likely conceived naturally, after the IVF procedure. Good luck to you, and please keep us posted!!

Not to hijack this thread but this is incredible!! Did they have two healthy babies??
I want to know the answer to this too! I was on meds to suppress my own ovulation, so this wouldn't be an explanation for me but this is amazing!!

That's incredible!!! I don't think this is a viable twin, given that I did ivf so I couldn't have ovulated twice- I'm just hoping this doesn't cause any complications...
