Teachers Gifting Students

Do teachers everywhere gift students?

In our case the elementary teachers give students each a book or writing tablet or art supplies.

The DC teachers have done clothes and toys. This year DS got a big hot wheels hypercolor car that lights up, drives when you push a button and plays music and he was so excited and grateful and amazed.  His teacher bought gifts specific to each child's likes and dislikes and wrapped them to be sent home, which I still find above and beyond (the whole thing is above and beyond!) but touching.

I was just curious if all teachers do this.

    DS's daycare director gave all the kids a small $1 toy last year, but I don't think the actual teachers did gifts.  It was a very sweet gesture but I think I'd feel the same as @PrivacyWanted if the teacher gave a bigger gift like you described above.  I know DS's teachers buy things for the class during the year and I'd feel guilty if they also bought him a Christmas gift.

    I'm an elementary teacher.  No.  I've never given gifts.  

    My daughters go to a small in-home DC.  We've gotten fairly closer to the owner over the years and I do give her something nice.  She also gives my daughters each something small.

    I wouldnt think in elementary school...but both DC's we've been at have done this, but always a small inexpensive book.

    I think it's crazy.  But I remain touched as one of the Christmas books we read every year was a gift from my daughter's pre-k teacher.  I am sure we will thus remember her when we read this book with the children of my children....I have books from my teachers growing up as well.  But real gifts kind of freak me out.

    My mom taught second grade and always gave her students a small gift - pencils or erasers.

    I know some in-home providers will give small gifts as well, but it isn't done at our center.
