Trouble TTC

Newbie here and looking for some education!

Hi ladies!

I am a first time poster and am going to do my best to learn the lingo here, so please bare with me if i'm not quite with it.  My DH and I have been TTC for over 1 year.  We are currently seeing an RE who is suggesting IVF at this point because of sperm counts being too low on my DH, that the IUI's don't really have a fighting chance because of the low motility.

My OBGYN was a hot mess.  She put me on two rounds of clomid, essentially to just give it a go and see if it would help produce good eggs, and was hoping that 1 good sperm would make it.  Stupidly, we tried it with nothing positive to report.  Needless to say, we are now seeking a new gynecologist who may  have actually went to college.

As far as trying to conceive, we've had a lot of people around us who got pregnant in one shot and we were hoping for the same fortune and luck.

I have learned this is not the case.  About 4 months ago, I found Fertility Friend, and I feel like I've watched these videos about 100 times and am still not understanding how to properly "chart" and "temp".  I have been basically logging my temperature every morning when i wake up and am looking for the spike in temperature to indicate ovulation.

My friend told me about the bump and that she got a lot of education just by reading the posts here...i'm hoping to learn and figure out the best way to chart my stats and hopefully get a BFP sometime sooner rather than later.

  • LOL @iputketchuponketchup.  The dog eating the BBT!!!  That's too funny!!  I feel like maybe there is more I can do in learning about how cycles work and everything before going the IVF route.  This month, AF has lasted about 9 days which is annoying all on its own.  I can probably attribute that to the winter months changing and the over stress I am currently facing at work.

The problem seems to be with my husbands counts as we have has the HSG, and had sex on days i can assume were ovulation based on cervical mucous consistency, as well as a sharp pain i usually feel on one side of my uterus at the time of said cervical mucous.  My OBGYN calls it mittelsmertz and says that a percentage of women can feel ovulation happening and can tell which ovary is releasing the egg based on which side the pain is coming from.

I've had baby fever for a long time but we put off TTC before we were ready financially and in our lifestyle.  We got the crazy out, did our travelling, partying and so on.  I had one nurse tell me that living a lifestyle that lavish and irresponsible was probably attributing to our infertility.  I got her fired.

thank you all for the support and warm welcome!!
  • I'm so sorry that you're facing this, but I'm glad you're with a trusted doctor who will take good care of you and not waste your time! I hope your stay here is nice and short. :)

Welcome! You got such great info already but thought I'd say hi. Also, for what it's worth, temping is useful but IMO takes time (like several months in a row of temping and gathering data) to actually help for planning timed intercourse. I temped for a good 6 months, and always saw a clear shift. This was great since I knew I was ovulating, but my ovulation day was only the same on 2 of the 6 or so cycles (might have been 7, not sure anymore), and I didn't have any reliable predictors-- my CM sucks, and I would get O pains sometimes the day of O, sometimes the day before and the day of, etc. So unless you have perfectly regular cycles and get to know your signs for gearing up to O and can predict your O day with some certainty, temping won't give you much other than confirmation that you ovulated (and a way to look back and evaluate how good your timing was).

All that being said, I think OPKs are useful in conjunction with temping. That way you don't have to have all your info in hindsight, and the OPK can give you an idea of when you are most fertile. Of course, you can get false positives, or can surge and not O, but at least they give you a bit of additional info to use.

    Good luck!
