Tips For Pumping at Return To Work?

Hi ladies, I return to work in 3 weeks after ebf'ing for the last 6 with Lil Noob, and will be pumping at the office during the day with my Freestyle. I'm pumping in the morning while baby eats on the other side, to get body used to the pump and get an emergency backup stash. Also, I take More Milk Plus as needed with supply dips, and eat oatmeal daily.
What other tips & suggestions can you give me for when I return to work?
I appreciate all your help a ton and look forward to spending time with this board, thank you!

  • What pp said. The goal is to pump as much as baby is eating while you are away. I've been back to work for 3.5 months now and pumping is just part of my daily routine.
  • As PP mentioned, NEVER skip a pump session. I've been back to work for almost 3 months now (since DS was 6 weeks old). You get into a routine, and break-down/set-up get easier and faster, and you find a groove.

Dont give up within the first couple weeks because its hard - it will become more part of your day and easier. I find massaging my breasts speeds the process up as well.

  • What everyone else said... plus get a hands free bra or something like that. I lasted about 2 weeks before I was going crazy holding the pump plus you can massage easier

  • I second the hands free bra. It allows me to play on my phone which relaxed me this resulting in a better output of milk.
  • Oh absolutely a hands free bra! Best money I've spent all year!

  • Hands free bra! Spare parts (you'll forget something at some point)
Then just commit. For me that means pumping in the car and taking conference calls while pumping etc.
  • Great advice here guys! I'd just add that being really up front with your boss and team about your needs is super important. Men and those without kids probably need to be educated on the importance of timing and the need to pump at specific times. When I first returned to work I had people booking me in back to back meetings for 5 or 6 hours so I couldn't pump when I needed to. I think scheduling on your outlook calendar as PP said is a great idea.
