Breastmilk Labels

How do you label your pumped milk? I'm looking for ideas as I plan to start pumping more soon, in preparation for going back to work. Both refrigerated and frozen. What works best? I think I remember reading something somewhere about removeable labels, but don't remember the specifics. Perhaps those would be good for daycare?

Re: Breastmilk Labels

  • Someone recommended Whoozems self laminating labels. I haven't tried them yet though. This would be to out LOs name but not dates which is probably what you were asking for.

  • For my frozen milk I write on the bag in sharpie. I find it works the best for me. Its very visible and does not smudge.

I just use the medela bottles with the day of the week lids for refrigeration, but I don't have to send mine out so I'm not much help there. Sorry.

I like them for at home use. I freeze in 5oz portions so sometimes I just need to store the milk for a day or two until I have a full portion to freeze. So they are useful for that. I don't think I would use them for sending out any where. If you (someone) accidentally pops the lid up then you have to hope you remember what it was set on.  It's not really easy to do but I have done it in the past.

Thankfully I did not spend a lot on them. I found them on a clearance end cap at Walmart last year. So I only paid like 2-3 dollars for a pack of 6.

  • I use the lansinoh bags and there is a spot for date amount and name. Works perfect for us.

This except I use the Ameda bags.
  • I usually use the bottles that day, and if not it goes in a Lanisoh freezer bag. But when I used to label the bottles, I used sharpie and painters tape.

  • I use the lanisoh bags as well... I label the expiration in the front of the bag with a sharpie and I also put the amount & date I pumped and I assign the bag a #. I use the total baby app that keeps track of my milk supply and I track the bags through there. At a glance I always know how much I have in the freezer, in the fridge and when it's about to expire.
  • Here's a screen shot of the milk log... I absolutely love it.

  • Sharpie on the bags for frozen milk. I don't usually label my refrigerator milk because it gets frozen pretty quickly in 4 oz increments, but if I do I use painters tape and a sharpie. For daycare I send the milk in bottles and I like name bubbles labels.

Our requires name, date, and that it's BM in the bottle. We also need the caps labeled with the name.

Painter's tape - genius! So simple, yet I would have never thought of it! :))

@Mmylsa‌ - Is the Total Baby app only for iPhone? I tried to look it up for Android but couldn't find it. :-q
  • Sorry @ashleyvictoria‌, I do think it's only available for iPhone & iPad.

@knittymeggy‌ - it is the Total Baby App by ANDESigned
