DH and I both like the name Caitlin (Katelin, Kaitlin, not a fan of any of the -yn spellings), but if we wanted to use the nn Katie, which spelling is best? I know Caitlin is the original Irish so that's what I prefer, but Catie seems odd. WDYT?

Re: Caitlin nn Katie?
Caitlin, NN Katie is fine.
The NN does not have to have all of the same letters that the formal name has.

I think it's also a lot less popular these days, so she should get lucky and not end up living with 4 other Katie's, a Cate, a Caitlin, and a Cailin in college
Unfortunately, it is true that no one will ever spell it right. And if you/she spell it too fast people will look at you with a blank stare. And the DMV might possibly transpose some letters and she might not notice until someone points out that the t is before the i... Not that I would know from experience or anything.
