NBR- BTDT house building

We are having a house built, but are total real estate newbs. Has anyone done this that could offer advice on things you might not think to think about/ask for? We have a location and floor plan picked out, but it's customizable to a certain degree. Haaaaalp. Gracias :)

    I don't have any help, but I'm totes jealous. Building a house to our liking is on our 10 yr plan!

    We are pretty excited! It'll be done around May/June and it's in my friend's neighborhood. Since we only have one vehicle, I'm ecstatic to eventually be in walking distance of some company.

    We built our house 5 years ago and it was a really fun process! Just know, no matter how many questions you ask and how much research you do, eventually you will notice things you don't like and wish you did differently. So don't look at any other houses after you close! :) We used to walk through ones in our neighborhood that were being built just to see what they did and it never failed that they thought of something we didn't!

    Things to think about that I wish we had- where the AC unit is located (ours is right outside a bedroom and is loud when it clicks on), soundproofing/insulating the wall in the living room/kitchen/laundry room if it shares a wall with a bedroom, are the doors solid core (cuts down on noise), is the hot water gas/electric/tankless, does the pantry have wire or wood shelves (depends on your preference), when you open the fridge/oven/dishwasher at the same time do they touch or is there plenty of space to walk, if the garage is 2 car will it have one or two garage doors (ours has two which makes it impossible to park a truck in the garage), go in the attic and ask how yours will be arranged because they can move things around to some degree if needed, ask how much extra it is to have your bathroom mirrors framed (fancier look for very little money usually), think hard about where you want/need plugs (we didn't need as many as they "allowed" us so we had some put outside under the roof for Christmas lights, love it!).... That's all I've got at the moment.
