Weekly Check In for Babies Born 11/24-11/30

Hi Mamas! For those of you that didn't see the age based check in poll, people seemed on board with the idea of a weekly place where they could check in and compare notes with other moms with babies in the same age range. This will take the place of our old ticker change check in's. Enjoy!

@WildFlower810‌ N lost her cord stump right at one week, and it's been bleeding a little all the time ever since. My midwife said to just clean the crusties off with hydrogen peroxide or alcohol. I've been using hp once a day.

She has at least 6 poops a day.. there's almost always poop in her diaper when I change her.

My boobs are definitely feeling really soft, compared to pre-bf even, not to mention the engorgement stage. I haven't pumped since then, so idk what's going on. I just know her poops are sufficient.

  • Thank you for starting this post. It's reassuring to hear how other LOs are doing.

Age: 2 weeks and 3 days
Sleeping: 2-3 hours during the day and at night with an hour to 2 hours of alert time in between during the day. She has slept for up to 5 hours though / including this afternoon. Two nights ago she was up all night!
Eating: every 2-3 hours. Waking up on her own. I don't wake her anymore. She has gone as long as 5 hours twice. I'm still using the nipple shield.
Milestone: she accidentally rolled herself over yesterday. She looked shocked.
Questions: I feel like I should try to wean her off the nipple shield so I don't have one more thing to carry around...but it's working well for us. Idk.

Also, any tips on getting her to sleep in the co sleeper/crib? Right now she will only sleep in her stroller.
  • Love, love this thread! Especially being a Nov-ender. I love hearing about the one and two month old babies but what about my 2 weeker?!

    Age: 2 Weeks, 3 Days

Sleeping: We average anywhere between 3.5 and 4 hours per night although he recently did a 4.5 hour stretch. R sleeps in our room in a full size crib. We also swaddle him but he's starting to wriggle out. He loves stretching and often works his little hands out. Probably going to invest in the Halo swaddler so he can have his arms out. Last night he seemed frustrated with his normal one.

Eating: We FF 3oz every 3-4 hours. He's doing well with the formula. He has spit up a handful of times so we started feeding him more upright which helps. We also use the Playtex Vent Aire which has helped.

Milestones: R lost his umbilical cord at almost two weeks. He had minimal bleeding and now he has a super cute belly button! And yes, my LO smiles all the time too! Especially when he sleeps. It's the sweetest thing ever.

Questions: How long is everyone doing tummy time for? We average about 12-15 minutes before he starts to get cranky. Have you brought LO out in public yet? Besides going to the Pedi I mean?

AW: We went on our first walk with the Ergo today! Everyone was right, total black magic. Came back inside and he was PTFO. Amazing.

  • -Age: 2 weeks and 4 days

-Sleeping: LO can sleep for 2-3 hours during the day and 3-4 hours at night. He has been more awake during the day lately and surprisingly, gets more tired at night. Lucky me!

-Eating: I breast feed during the day and DH will bottle feed DS my pumped breast milk so that I can get some sleep. Knock on wood, DS is doing well with both breast and bottle feeding!

-Milestones: He loves his tummy time! I feel that he is already trying to roll over but can't manuever it quite yet. Currently waiting for his umbilical cord stump to come out!

-Questions: For the ladies that breast feed and also bottle feed with pumped breast milk, how is your supply? I'm wondering when I'll see an abundance of milk coming in. I can usually get 3-4 oz when I pump and would like to know what could be considered a "normal" amount that I should be able to pump out.
  • -Age: two weeks, four days

-Sleeping: 2-3 during the day, and 3 hour (occasionally 4) stretches at night.

-Eating: about every 2-3 hours during the day. I breastfeed and supplement with donor milk and formula via SNS (low supply due to anemia caused by PPH). I almost exclusively nurse and pump from my left. Only nurse a couple times a day on my right side.

    -Milestones: increase in wakeful periods.

  • So many thoughts - trying not to miss anyone:

First - welcome to all the D14ers!

@runnershan‌ I love reading yours, because our girls are the exact same age, and progressing similarly - I have to pump some supplement for her, but as the jaundice goes away further, she needs it less and less. It's such a pain though - it's always hard to know exactly how much she needs.

@Glbaby1‌ trying making sure LO is totally asleep before placing her in the crib. She may not fall asleep in the crib, but she's unlikely to wake up and protest. Then she'll get used to being in it.

@BrittG13‌ we can do tummy time for hours, if she's on my tummy. If she's on her playmat, 12-15 minutes would be awesome. And yes, we have ventured out. I take her several times a week to our public health building to weigh her. I try to do one errand each time so Christmas doesn't get forgotten. But I keep her completely encased in her stroller, so she's essentially bubble wrapped ;) The short trips are necessary for my sanity.

@vcl2008‌ I can't help too much, because I don't think my baby needs gas drops/gripe water. However, one multi-hour fussy period a day seems totally normal. I'm just trying to adjust this period so it isn't at 1am :(

@audreym0824‌ if you can get 3-4 Oz when you pump, I'd say you're doing really well. I can get that much only if my LO was too fussy or sleepy to take anything from me. If she nursed beforehand, I'm lucky to get 1 Oz.
  • Age: 3 weeks today! (Monday)

Sleeping: Myles has been sleeping much better since we've started swaddling him and using a white noise app at night. He's slept in 3-4 hour stretches the last few nights. I had done a modified (hands out) swaddle before, but he was really restless. I finally surrendered to the full swaddle and so far so good. It still makes me a bit claustrophobic though.

He is awake most of the morning and early afternoon with a few cat naps. Then he sleeps for about four hours in the late afternoon/ early evening.

Eating: we switched to formula (similar) when he was eleven days old. My supply was really low. Even the lactation consultant agreed with the switch. I was heartbroken, but I couldn't stand watching my baby go hungry. He's been doing great on formula. He has surpassed his birth weight. He eats about 3 oz every 1 1/2-4 hours depending on the time of day.

Questions: when do you decide to give gripe water? I have a few times when he seems uncomfortable. He hunches his back and squirms. Sometimes I can feel the bubbles in his intestines. That's when I've given it. I'm not entirely sure it does anything. Hmmm
