Toots McGee

so we had to switch to formula since the tiny sweet pea in my uterus tanked my milk supply.

Holland is handling the change like a champ—except she is SO gassy. Everytime I squeeze her belly she lets a big 'ol fart rip!

It doesn't seem to bother her now, but half the time I can't tell if it's her or my husband!

Anyone else?

Re: Toots McGee

  • It might just be due to the switch and her system needs to get used to it. When LO was brand new she farted A LOT and drank both formula and breastmilk. I'm not sure when she got less gassy but she doesn't toot at all like she used to. I'd give it a try for a week or two and if it doesn't get better maybe then try switching brands.

  • Okie. Do you think shaking the bottle is causing extra air bubbles?

  • I've been looking for the right place to share this - babies being afraid of farts:

I tried not shaking it much when she only drank two ounces, but imo it's impossible to get it mixed up well unless you shake it (or use a whisk I guess). I shake the hell out of it and I don't notice much gas.

  • Idk if farts are related to bubbles in the formula, but I'm sure burps are. I shake the bottles pretty vigorously, but then I swirl them around a bit and tap them a few times on the counter HARD to get some of the bubbles out and that seems to help (think of pop in a glass cup. you hit that cup on the table and you can watch the bubbles float to the top...same idea).

We use Target's up and up formula and haven't had any real issues. good luck!
