I feel like I feed them the same stuff over and over.

Just wondering if anyone has any great suggestions.

Re: baby led weaning. anyone got any good meal ideas

  • We recently started scrambled eggs and macaroni. I give bits of steamed carrots, green pepper, peas, cheerios. This week we will introduce ground beef.

  • Loading the player...
  • Idk if it's blw technically now that they're older ? When does it go from blw to just feeding your kid food??

    Haha

Well anyways soup. LO likes to eat the mushy veggies in the soup. Dh thinks he's because of all the salt in the broth but whatever
  • LO eats almost everything we do.

Breakfast foods: Scrambled eggs, toast with peanut butter (sometimes jam), pancakes, waffles, french toast, fruit (melons, berries, banana, sliced grapes). I still feed him yogurt.

Lunch/supper foods: Carrot, squash, sweet potato, green peas, avocado, sliced meat sandwiches (both kids take them apart to eat) - sometimes toasted, quesadillas, pizza, stew (strained off juice/gravy - just give pieces of everything in it), rice, pasta salad (rotini, fusili, penne, macaroni, shells), and loads of stuff I'm forgetting.

Snacks: crackers, 'veggie straws', mum mums, Cheerios, cheese....

I also make homemade chunky apple sauce. I will feed him that OR make thick oatmeal but add applesauce and keep it thick enough so I can put a blob on his high hair tray and he can pick it up himself. He loves it.
  • He just eats what we eat. If it's too chunky we send it through the food mill.

    We do everything but honey.

  • I'm so jealous of all of that @babycaps. His lunch is better than mine! Lo still gags seriously on anything more than a thick purée or a puff. We keep trying though & I encourage daycare to feed cooked peas, carrots & fresh bananas depending on what the bigger toddlers are eating.
I'm glad I am not the only one. LO gags still at anything solid that is not pureed. But he will also full on throw up from the gagging as well. Hopefully someday soon it will click for him.

  • @bennieangel DH keeps getting mad at me for trying because he has thrown up. I might try once a week and see if it works, but if we don't try, we will not know when he is ready. I would love for him to eat some normal food! I got some gerber spaghetti with some noodle chunks to see if that is something we could test on him.

  • I made some black bean sweet potato cakes for Lo that are great because they are firm enough for her to hold but soft enough to chew.
Otherwise, she's been getting random table food e.g. blueberries, peas, carrots, banana, grilled cheese. She does still eat purees too.

  • @bennieangel DH keeps getting mad at me for trying because he has thrown up. I might try once a week and see if it works, but if we don't try, we will not know when he is ready. ...my DH is super weird about this too. To be honest, I encourage daycare to try (with peas, carrots & bananas from the lunch tray) so I don't have to be anxious that he's going to choke. Is that sad? They've gotten him to eat puffs, which is more than I ever got & now he'll eat them at home too. So I just ask every day if he got any & see what they say. I love LOVE the teachers in his room & trust them with this, they're the ones who convinced me he was ready for solids because I had tried  & he gagged / threw up and then didn't try again...and they were right. They've pretty much been right about any suggestions they've given me...so that helps :)
I might have to try that and have my daycare try more with him. I trust my care taker since she has been at the same daycare for over 15 years.

  • My LO still gags too, but he's getting somewhat better. The stage 3 foods used to make him puke, but we've been trying everyday and now he'll eat half a jar. Feeding him the yogurt drops and foods he likes really helped with this bc he likes their taste and wants to eat them despite the gagging, so it's helped him get better. Keep trying @kare_bear_12‌ and @bennieangel‌ ! Find foods they like. For us, the first foods LO one eat were pumpkin pie (not much of course) and those yogurt drops. They have to get used to it or they can have long term texture issues. One of my friends works at a place where her primary job is to help kids eat who have texture issues. Some of then have medical reasons, but some of them just never learned and won't do it. They have to make like hotdog milkshakes and whatnot *shudders* So we have been trying everyday.
  • @katka512‌ what's your black bean sweet potato cake recipe.

The girls refuse to take anything from a spoon. They want to feed themselves. I made salmon squash and sweet potato cakes for them the other day but they just fell apart. And then yesterday the chicken casserole was too loose so I ended up making that into mini quiches. But after two days of bread an cakes and quiche they need less bread more veg and protein.

I give them the usual array of steamed veg but just think it's so boring.

  • @BabyVDM I used this recipe  https://blog.homemade-baby-food-recipes.com/nutritious-black-bean-cakes-with-sweet-potato/

I used canned instead of dried beans.  I rinsed them really well to remove as much salt as I could.

  • Thanks @Katka512

My DH is on low salt diet so I buy no salt added canned beans.  I will definitely give that recipe a try.

This morning we are going to try Cottage Cheese Pancakes.

or https://www.marthastewart.com/315416/cottage-cheese-pancakes  (minus the sugar and plus lemon)

  • bennieangel I think I do the same thing. I send snacks and different things to school to see what works. She didn't eat the puffs too well with me so I sent them to daycare, now she's a pro! So the doctor cleared us for mushy foods and after reading your post I called the daycare to give her bananas. good idea!  =D>

As for other foods we are still keeping her on basic solids but she has put it together that some of the morning stuff i eat is absolutely delicious. She kinda leans and hovers over me when i am having my morning bar or snack. I don't want her to have my bad eating habits, but that is another topic for another day.

  • Holland gets whatever table food we give her, plus I'll give her a pouch or two of purées. She loves table food, I'm just paranoid she is having too much fun playing with it to really eat all that much of it.
