pilonidal cyst... feeling very miserable :(

Hey everyone.. so here's my dilemma i have a reoccurring pilonidal cyst just below my tail bone.. I've been to the hospital, i had it lanced the whole 9 yards.. even saw a surgeon that can't do anything till after baby is born.. so I'm wondering if anyone has ever had this happen and any advice on how i can get peace between each flare up would be awesome... its making my life miserable atm..

Thanks

Re: pilonidal cyst... feeling very miserable :(

  • I had this. It was a sore lump for years then one day grew very large and painful. Had it drained and packed daily for weeks the first time. the second time I caught it early and eliminated it by taking turmeric, using castor oil packs, and sprinkling gold bond medicated powder on it to dry it up. It never came back. Unfortunately you can't take medicinal doses of turmeric while pregnant. Try sitz baths, Epsom salt and anti inflammatory foods. Drink lots of water. I hope you find relief soon. I'm afraid of mine coming back while I'm pregnant, I won't be able to use my usual remedies.

  • I have no experience so I have no advice to offer. I just wanted to say I hope you're able to find some relief.
  • I had surgery for mine last, year and ended up missing about four months of work. It wasn't too bad getting around the house. Maybe consider having . It done with a z flap when baby is born and extend your time home for maternity leave that way too. I'm not sure if there's pregnancy safe antibiotics but if there is take those. Prison salts in a warm bath helped. Also apply a hot wash cloth to just the area. Mine was always too internal to be lanced. Heat and antibiotics got it burst for me. Once it is burst keep the area clean. Avoid baths once it has ruptured. My surgeon explained that anything a grain of dirt or a small hair can get in through the holes the roots leave and inflame it again. The donut cushions also help for chairs. Keep the area as dry as possible during the day. So sorry
  • I haven't had this issue, but my husband does.  The best tricks we have were, like @Jennym2b mentioned, donut cushions and keeping the area dry.  Keeping the area dry and clean will be especially important in preventing in-grown hairs (yes there can be hairs over there!) which can aggravate the situation.  Good luck!
