Pregnant after IF

slight pink spotting.....help

Hi ladies,    I have a call into my RE but I am physically sick right now with worry.   I have had 2 chemicals and 1 D&C.....I just had an FET and am now 5 weeks 5 days pregnant.   Had first scan and gestational and yolk sac were normal and HCG's were great.  I go for my 1st scan on Friday the 19th...This morning when I first woke up to pee (sorry) I saw a tinge of light brown on toilet paper.    This evening a little light pink but only on toilet paper.

I am petrified of what is to come......I feel fine no cramps or anything and nothing on undies.  After 3 misses I am terrified.  I had the testing done on all my eggs and all chromosonally good.  This one was the best.   Any words of encouragement.   Thanks

Re: slight pink spotting.....help

  • I am sorry you're so scared!!! The good news is that lots and lots of healthy pregnancies have early spotting and even red bleeding. Especially as it's pink, not red flow, you have every reason to be optimistic (but I understand the fear completely, especially given all you've been through). It could be an irritated cervix from progesterone (keep taking it!) or it could be implantation spotting as the embryo burrows in deeper. It could be any number of completely innocent reasons. Unfortunately, all you can do is keep taking your progesterone and wait. The waiting sucks.

Big hugs, and congrats on your BFP! I hope this is your sticky take home baby!

  • I am 6w3d after IVF#2.  I have been spotting for over two weeks now (mostly brown with occasional red or pink).  My RE said sometimes it can be a bad sign, but lots of time its nothing.  The cervix has more blood flow than normal.  I was also told since it was only spotting and I'm not having pain, the risk of miscarriage is lower.  Our ultrasounds have progressed despite the spotting.  Hopefully that is encouraging.  The waiting sucks, but hopefully you will see a nice heart beat on the 19th.

  • I'm sorry you're dealing with this!  I had spotting at 7-8 weeks and remember how terrifying it was.  I feel like many IVF ladies experience some spotting.  With it being so light, it more than likely is nothing and baby will be just fine.  But I know you won't have peace of mind until you go back for an u/s.  Good luck!

  • Sorry you're dealing with this! I know how scary it is. I had some spotting (red, brown, pink) the first few weeks, along with some red bleeding at 7 weeks and then a heavy red bleed at 10 weeks (when they found an SCH) and have since had spotting on and off the past 4 weeks. Sooooo there are many reasons why you can spot and everything still be ok, so try and stay calm for now! I know it's tough to do when you see spotting/blood but it doesn't automatically mean anything is wrong with the baby!
  • ((Hugs)) ANY bleeding is terrifying! It is very common and seemingly more so in IVF. I had a sch the night before my first scan and it was terrible...I thought for sure it was over, but so far so good!

Try and take it easy, drink lots of water, and try to remember that today you are pregnant. I hope the 19th comes quickly for you and brings you very happy news!

  • Congratulations on your pregnancy! I too had spotting. Remember that the anatomy of a FET is fundamentally different than a typical pregnancy (no corpus luteum at all), and I think that's one of the reasons FET graduates tend to spot more. Especially if it's light and/or brown it usually is not cause for concern, but of course that doesn't prevent the anxiety. :(

Just remember that Rh negative women need to talk to their doctors about all spotting to see if they need the antibody shot.

Good luck with your scan this week!

  • thanks so much for your replies and taking the time to do so.    I appreciate the positive answers and will do my very very best to stay calm.    I think that since all the previous losses I am just afraid of anything going wrong....Thank you again
  • I'm sorry you have this scared feeling. It's very nerve racking. I've had 2 episodes of spotting. Turns out one was late implantation bleeding around 6 weeks. And again around 9 weeks. Turns out I had a small SCH. just like you it was on the TP and very light in color. Call the RE but try to keep positive. It's not any help to worry.

I spotted, too. and I'm pretty sure it was a few doses of Progesterone I had to take vaginally.

FX that we hear a good update from you soon. The nurse said even sex or an exam can cause spotting due to the cervix sensitivity.

It is the most stressful thing to see after a history of losses.

  • I had some spotting from a SCH too.

It was so scary, but like all the ladies shared- it seems to be pretty common. It was many different colors and consistency. I even had bright red.

  • T&Ps sent your way! Like others said spotting is VERY common in healthy pregnancies. I had very heavy bleeding at 5 weeks due to SCH. I had convinced myself that it was over. Had long hard ugly very and all. Evening turned out fine. My nurses and drs all said they are not concerned about spotting as long as your not cramping and bright red bleeding with clots. Good luck! Try not to worry too much!

  • Hi! I'm in a similar boat-I just did a FET and am 5 weeks, 4 days. I've been in a panic since Friday. I've had cramping since the day before my beta, which they told me was normal as long as I'm not bleeding with cramping. On Friday night after using a vaginal insert I noticed some pink spotting. I spoke to the nurse on call Saturday and she told me this could still be normal. It seems as though cramping or spotting is normal, but I'm still so freaked out and already feeling devastated because I have both at the same time and I feel like I do before I get my period. I have my scan tomorrow and it couldn't come soon enough. I wish you the best of luck! It sounds like many have had similar spotting issues with total success!
