Baby Names

Alethea?

Hi ladies! DH and I are expecting our first in June. We're still undecided on whether or not we'll be finding out the sex, but DH and I each had a girl name in mind before we met: Alethea (DH - he's a history/Greek mythology buff) and Michelle (me - for a childhood mentor). I actually think they go well together as a fn/mn pair, but Alethea took a long time to grow on me.

Thoughts on Alethea Michelle? Our last name rhymes with "busy." Do you think it works sound-wise? How about the nn Ally, or some spelling of it?

Incidentally, we've also gotten exactly nowhere on boy names. I like the sound of the -den and -ton names, but don't want to go that popular. I love Lincoln, but that's also been popular lately. Any boy name ideas that we might consider?

  • Sounds like we'll have to think about Thea. I don't think I like it, but then I didn't like Alethea at first either... It sounds like a female Theo to me?

Thea means goddess and is a real, gorgeous name all by itself. Theo is strictly a nn, since a male god would be a theos.
Interesting. Good to know! Apparently DH likes Thea, so it sounds like I'm the odd one out here. I'm sure it'll grow on me, too. :)

  • It's a pretty name but I think of a lady in her 50s or 60s - I'm trying to imagine it on a little girl.
  • Eh. Not a fan. I prefer Michelle.
  • I love Alethea Michelle and have to agree with the PP's suggestion of Thea as a nn.
