Bright red blood spots in stools

I wasn't going to start a new thread for this but I was curious to see how many other people have experienced this or if I'm the only one. It has not been in with every dirty diaper. From what I read online, it's probably a food allergy. I'm calling the pediatrician first thing in the morning to go in. My SIL is a nurse practitioner and she said it could wait until Monday but I've been keeping an eye on it just in case.

Re: Bright red blood spots in stools

  • That does sound like it could be an allergy or sensitivity. What is the quality of the poops (green or yellow, mucousy, frothy, etc.)? When was the last time LO pooped (sometimes bright red blood can be from a fissure caused by straining/constipation)?

You might choose to preemptively eliminate dairy from your diet this weekend, or you can wait until morning when you chat with the pedi. Best of luck!

  • Poop is usually green with an occasional yellow. It sometimes looks kind of mucousy. Her temperament is great. I have noticed no difference in how she acts and her temperature is normal.
  • If you go to see the pediatrician bring a diaper with the stool in it...it can make it much easier for the doctor to see rather than you having to explain it
  • I agree with many previous posts. On 1 occasion we had a little bit of mucusy blood. I called my pediatrician and was told it could either be a fissure or dairy sensitivity so to c cut out dairy.
  • @StephanieAnnLee‌ I have taken pictures of the dirty diapers and may bring one along if she has one between now and then. She does strain a lot right before going and there is a lot of force behind her poops bc you can always hear them. The lady three rows up in church heard her today and turned around to look.
