Trouble TTC

To pee or not to pee....on a stick...on vacation

So I know we just had a thread yesterday about whether or not you POAS before Beta... but I've got a special circumstance here with a question of WWYD?

I am leaving for the Dominican Republic next Wednesday-Sunday. (whoo hoo, can't wait for some R&R!!) I will be 14dpo on Saturday of that trip. I am torn between POAS while in the DR or waiting for my Beta the next Monday?

My thought process is this - I want all the pina coladas, daquiris, cervezas and enjoy drinking them...and not feel guilty. BUT I also want to POAS and know if this cycle results in a BFP or the more depressing BFN...

So my question is-- To wait and just have a great time with care-free drinking thinking ignorance is bliss? or not wait and POAS in my hotel room bathroom everyday until AF or BFP. I have a feeling I will "drink until the line turns pink" regardless, though.

Re: To pee or not to pee....on a stick...on vacation

  • I'm too impatient and a worrier, so I would be peeing all over those sticks. As long as you are OK either way then I would just get it out of the way and test. But that's just me.

Have an amazing in time in the DR!

  • I'm with @Buttmonkey34.  Pee on all the things!  Seriously, though, there is every reason to enjoy your vacation, and Wondfos (or similar) can let you do so relatively confidently.

I'm glad you asked this. We were hoping I'd be ready for IUI this Friday/Saturday, but I'm responding really slowly -- I just hope it's not stopping entirely :( -- and the earliest we'd be able to do the IUI is this Sunday or Monday, putting me squarely in the "has implantation possibly occurred?" days when my parents are here for Christmas.  So now I don't feel like a terrible person for even thinking about this, so thank you for asking it.  :D
Yep, I just ordered and recieved 25 Wonfo's from amazon yesterday...Have held up not testing out my trigger so far.. I'm sorry your cycle is going slower than planned!

  • I agree with people. Pee away! I hope you get good news, even if it is at the expense of all those daiquiris and pina coladas. Regardless, have a ridiculously good time in DR on your vacation.

  • I think given the situation you should pee away as well!  If it will make you feel better about drinking (or given you a reason not to) I would think that peace of mind would be worth it.

  • I concur with PPs. Since you're already thinking about the possibility of feeling guilty if you have drinks, than ignorance may turn out to be less than blissful. If you didn't test, had drinks and got your BFP on Monday, would you be kicking yourself and thinking "I should have tested!"? I only ask that because I know I would.

    PS-Completely jealous of your vacation!!

    Me: 28  MH:35

Married September 2012. TTC since September 2013

June 2014 - Dx w/ significant PCOS and referred to RE.

July/August 2014 - Testing complete: Testosterone & AMH very high, FSH slightly high, Vitamin D low, tubes and lining all lovely. DH SA: A+

    Cycle 1 (Nov 2014): 2.5 mg Letrozole/Ovidrel/TI = BFN

    Cycle 2 (Dec 2014): 5 mg Letrozole/Ovidrel/TI - BFN

    Cycle 3 (Jan 2015): 5mg Letrozole/Ovidrel/TI - BFN

    WTF consult scheduled for 1/29

  • I agree with PPs, I'd definitely be peeing on sticks like crazy! For me, I don't drink in the TWW unless I get a BFN on like 11-12DPO, in which case I feel like the cycle's a bust and I can indulge. I would want to test to hopefully get great news on vacation, but also to know that it's okay to have all the drinks if it was negative. Have an amazing vacation!!!

    Me: 27 DH: 35

    TTC #1 Since July 2013

    Started RE Testing July 2014

2 HSG tests: Right tube is blocked, possible endo.

November, 2014: Femara + Ovidrel + IUI#1--2 follies (on the good side), 46 mil. motile sperm=BFN

    Nov-Dec 2014: Femara + Ovidrel + IUI #2 (1 follie, 76 mil. motile sperm) + Endometrin=BFN

    January, 2014: Femara + Ovidrel + IUI #3 (1 follie, 38 mil. motile sperm)=???

New RE appt. scheduled for 1/14.

  • Enjoy the vacay! All the drinks!

It makes sense to wait for beta on your return and try take your mind off things while you're away, but I am not that person. Pee on all the things.

Official diagnosis: Unexplained IF. I am 32. I have low ovarian reserve (low AMH), and poor egg quality. I've also been diagnosed with mild glandular developmental arrest (lining problems, detected with EFT).

We are using open ID donor sperm. IUIs #1-7=BFN. IVF September 2014 antagonist protocol, 8R,5M,3F, 5 day transfer of 1 morula = BFN. IVF#2 planned for January 2015 (antagonist protocol + HGH).

  • I'm kinda with ketchup on this one. If I brought my hpt with me on vacation and tested every day I would be very sad if I got a bfn each day and I would be sad the whole trip. True a BFP would be awesome... But that's just my two cents.

I also agree with ketchup. I would go, and drink (and try not to get shitfaced) and wait to test until I got home.

The only caveat would be if you are on progesterone supplements - those things make me feel like ass, and if there was a chance I could stop them  before the trip to lose the bloat for my bikini, I would probably do that. I'm vain ;)

  • ha way to pull a 180 on me, yall! I will be CD 26-30 while I am DR, so no, not 5 weeks. I'm thinking I will POAS the morning that I leave and the evening I get back. I wont bring the Wonfo's but I will bring those stupid tampon things with me just incase AF decides to ruin everything  my day... that way, I won't be peeing on all the things while on vacay...but still POAS before beta so I can be prepared for a negative test come monday. happy medium!

Haha I think you have a great plan ....POAS the morning you leave and then when you get back. Unless (like a previous poster said) you're on the progesterone suppositories ... that would change my plan to bring some pee sticks with me. I know, such contradictory advice. Good luck and enjoy vacation!!
