Ladies any with allergies

i started being itchy all over! Arms legs back head and i dont know it i can take something or is it normal? With my first pregnancy it was a peace of cake all nine months, starting to get a feeling this will be the opposite! ;)

Re: Ladies any with allergies

  • Sorry you are having that.  I think pregnancy could affect allergies. My seasonal allergies have been non existent when I have been pregnant.  My allergies cause sinus issues not itching, but I remember claritin was on the list of okay while pregnant list I was given 3 years ago.  I can't remember about benedryl which is suppose to be great for itching and comes in a cream.  Can you use hydrocortesine cream or calamine lotion to help with the itch?  I have several friends who have experienced itching while pregnant that don't have allergies.  Maybe some of the gals farther along can offer more advice.

  • You can have Benedryl and Claritin. Check with your ob just in case but they are on the safe list.

Do you have cold winters? I ask because the cold aggregates my eczema (which is related to allergies). I use cetaphil restoraderm and that keeps the itches at bay for me.

  • I have been an itchy mess too this week. It passed but I am not a fan of medicine anyway. My last pregnancy, my eczema was terrible. I used Aveeno for eczema and it cleared up.

  • @mangie14‌ I've had a stopped up nose almost everyday, but I heard that's normal. But now the back of my throat is stuffy every morning when I wake up. :( but I live where there's a lot of tree pollen which I'm unfortunately allergic to, and I can't take claritin.
  • I broke out in full body hives for about three weeks after we conceived, and still have occasional outbreaks. My Dr said it was likely due to the hormonal changes and allergies combined. I take zyrtec in the evening which seems to help.
  • I'm prone to stress hives and normally take allegra to help with it. I've only had them once since my BFP and took it, trying to hold off as much as I can until my first docs appt.
  • I had the same thing, all over body itching. I couldn't figure out what it was, no new lotions or detergents or really anything new that I could figure out that could have caused this. The only thing would be pregnancy?
  • Your able to take Benadryl during pregnancy, it should help with the allergic reaction.. I would recommend starting with one, when I took it before conceiving I would take two..
  • I have environmental allergies (maybe different from the kind of allergies you are referring to) and despite trying to avoid meds, I've taken Zyrtec ( and very occasional Benadryl) since my BFP. I've also requested my acupuncturist to try to help me with the allergy symptoms.

  • @mangie14‌ glad you started this thread!!!
I've been itching all over too - no rash, just itchy, particularly on my back, neck, wrists and hands.
I have allergies (including to foods) asthma and eczema and they've all been worse. Been hoping to keep off any meds at least for the first trimester, but it's not looking good so i made an apt with my doc.
Anyone else gone through a pregnancy with similar issues? Is it worse in the first tri or throughout the pregnancy?
  • Oh and @mangie14‌ - I gave in and took some benadryl one night when it was particularly bad and that seemed to help. You may want to ask your obgyn about using that.
  • I take Zyrtec for environmental allergies. For itching I think Benadryl would be a better choice, but talk to your OB first.
