Exclusive pumpers--how is your schedule?

LO is 5 weeks old--just trying to prepare myself if I have to go to just pumping. Right now she spits up so much after taking a breast she won't take the other breast so we offer a bottle and she takes maybe another ounce. (We are going to see an IBCLC this week). But if I did need to go to pumping --how do you manage it with also caring for your newborn. ? I know you have to pump at every feeding? My LO gets so worked up that she goes from slight feeding cues to screaming in seconds. It takes me a while to get all the the pump together and pumping bra on, etc. Then I'm connected to the PISA. Ugh. Any tips? Schedule? She eats every 2-3 hours

Re: Exclusive pumpers--how is your schedule?

  • Currently EPing over here and baby girl just turned six months. Both when she was a newborn and now the easiest time to pump while watching her is when she is either sleeping or eating. I did (and still do) try to time pumping with when she eats. I prop her in the boppy, get hooked up, then hold the bottle.

Now this sounds easy but is not as you know. I still have my husband feed her If he is around and luckily she is on a feeding schedule now due to daycare so I know when she will eat.

It is doable, just something you will (hopefully not have to) figure out as far as what works for you. Good luck :-)

  • I second everyone with having your husband or anyone else feed her while you pump. Which, kind of sucks because I barely got to feed my son when I was a hardcore EP'er. Anyway...

I just wanted to jump in and say that breastmilk is good 6-8 hours at room temperature, so what I used to do is pump while feeding my son, then leave that freshly pumped bottle out til the next feeding - that when when he was hungry, it was ready to go and there was no measuring or heating needed.
