33 weeks & contractions

Hi! I'm Shannon. I'm a new first time mom and 33 weeks (Jan 28th). I am currently sitting in the hospital with pretty bad contractions happening... They hurt SO bad. And they're quite regular. I'm being told it's just dehydration but I have had 90oz of fluid before I even checked in. Can someone please explain to me what is happening?! My cervix is completely closed the nurse said so I'm just not sure why the contractions are so bad!

If you are already getting answers at the hospital then that's better than what strangers on the internet can tell you.

  • if they told you it's dehydration, it's probably dehydration (even with 90oz of fluid...it might take some time and rest for the ctx to stop).  i'm not really sure what you want us to tell you.

  • Okay - I was just trying to get a little support... And maybe some other moms who would tell me it will be okay. No need to be hostile or rude. I have a right to be a little scared, don't i?

of course you do.  but you asked for people to explain to you what's happening, and i'm sorry, that's not possible.  maybe next time just post that you're scared and looking for reassurance, rather than asking for random people on the internet to tell you why you're having contractions or why they're so bad?  because honestly, we have no way of knowing.

Other moms can't tell you it's going to be okay, because we have no idea what is going on with you and we don't know if you're going to be okay. But it could possibly be an alien...
  • Best thing to do is trust what the drs. And nurses are saying. They are the ones to give great advice. Dehydration can do a lot to your body. And if you haven't been drinking water regulary until today I'm sure it can take time for the contractions to stop. Please Ask them questions on what you are unsure of such as how much water per day you should be drinking during your pregnancy "throughout" the day. Im guessing they have an iv of fluids hooked up to you. Give it time and RELAX you will feel better shortly. Give it some time and trust them.

No one is giving you a hard time... You specifically asked for one of us to "explain" what was happening. In all honesty all we can repeat is what the drs./nurses told you which is dehydration and to ask more questions. Also, Many of us like to joke around and be smartasses and we do it to each other to "lighten the mood". Don't take it serious.

If you just wanted to have a rant about what is going on and to receive support and not dr advice please do so and not ask what your dr and nurse team had already answered for you. We all know it must be scary right now for you. Just know we all have had our scares some worse than others. So deep breath you are in good hands with the drs.
  • The same thing happen to me last week (34w3d)now . I called my doctor she told me to go to l&d. Turned out I was just dehydrated I also drink a lot of water daily. They hooked me to the monitors and had me drink 2 big cups of water think 32oz each not sure. It def helped and my blood pressure went down. So trust the doctor I thought it was odd at first but they were right and I was sent home.
  • "Can someone please explain to you what is happening?"

Your dr explained it to you but you run to internet strangers to answer the question?
