April 2015 Moms

Hi everyone! I have a question.

My name is ariel. This will be my first child I'm very excited. I want to say congratulations to everyone to whoever I s expecting! However I have recently been fighting a uti. I took keflex two times for 20 days and no relief. I still have the same symptoms. I'm wondering has anyone else experienced a urinary tract infection that just doesn't seem to go away? If so what was your treatment and how did it work for you?

  • Ditto to the doctor. UTIs are no joke when your pregnant, although common. Cranberry juice is helpful. I find it helps with some of the symptoms. Good luck. Hope it gets better soon.

  • You need to get back to the doctor like all of the other PP's have said. Don't let this linger for too long.

  • My MIL recently had a UTI get so bad it turned into a blood infection. Granted, in her case it went unnoticed for so long due to her chemo treatments and pain associated with that. But, shits no joke.
  • I seem to be very susceptible to uti's and I find drinking a lot of water with lemon (lemon helps cleanse) is useful in helping get rid of them. Drink a ton of cranberry juice as well. There are some essential oils that help as well just google it. Overall I know if a uti lasts more than a few days you need to see your doc again. It's not good to be on any medication for too long and you don't want it effecting your kidneys.
  • I had a kidney infection from a UTI gone too long. It was awful and you do not want to go there. I have had multiple UTI's and Apple cider vinegar (with the mother) works amazing, but you really need to go back to the doctor. A doctor told me that when they diagnose a UTI they don't always do an intensive culture to determine what bacteria is causing the problem, they just proscribe what usually works. This could be the case with you.
  • Yes please go to your doctor again! They need to up your dosage, as long as safe for pregnancy im no doctor. I've never had a uti while pregnant but I had one for about 2 months before that I couldn't get rid of and they had to keep increasing my dosage. Try not having sex while on the antibiotics so you can help keep it all clean. If cranberry pills AZO brand are safe take those so you don't get all the extra added sugar from cranberry juice. If you drink cranberry juice get 100% juice not cocktail juice.

    Hope you feel better!!

I second the cranberry tablets (if they are safe) because they are more effective and don't have all the sugar. I think you can also buy cranberry concentrate at vitamin shop. I used to buy it and dilute it in some water (otherwise it's very strong) and drink that because it doesn't have all the sugar.
  • I have nothing additional to add. I agree with everyone else about going to the doctor, proper hydration and cranberry. I just want to wish you good luck. I hope this heals quickly and I'm sorry you're in pain.
  • I had one in the beginning of pregnancy and was prescribed 10 days of Amoxicillin, a pencillin antibiotic. Did the trick! Unfortunately I was away at work in the middle of nowhere and had about a week delay between actually finding out I had a uti and getting drugs which is a huuuuge no no according to my doc, so get on it and get that shit treated!
  • My prenatal vitamins have cranberry in them. The juice will do wonders, but as PP have said, make sure it is the 100%, not the cocktail, mix one third juice, two thirds water. Make sure you go back to the doctor.
