Lots of T&Ps (another update, now more serious)

I've had a cough since Tuesday. Felt kind of crappy, but dayquil fended it off mostly. Last night, the cough suppressant decided not to work. I got maybe 1 hour of sleep. People, we are flying to the US today which means 23 hours door to door travel with 2 toddlers. I. am. going. to. die. Plus with my bloodshot eyes (lack of sleep) and nasty cough, I'm afraid they're going to suspect me of having Ebola and stop me from entering the States. I mean, not really, but kind of.
Please, all the prayers that the DDs are great on the flights and I can maybe even catch a wink or twenty of sleep.
Also, I about had a panic attack last night thinking of how hard it's going to hit me that my dad is really gone this time. Sucky, sucky day.

Sorry, I'm really tired and didn't update here like I should have. It's down below.

I updated below again, but DD1 now has a temp of around 104. I have a call in to the on-call pedi, and I'm really, really hope we don't have to take her to the hospital. T&Ps really appreciated on this one. :( We're all horribly jet lagged and want to sleep but are trying to stay awake and then she's sick on top of it.

  • Kelly!  I am so sorry.  Please let us know when you are safely here and prayers for safe, restful (is that possible) travels.  Honey helps coughs, FYI.  Not that that is your main issue right now, but just thought I would mention.  Hoping when you get here there will be extra hands to help you so you can rest some.  And I am just so, so sorry about your dad.  Huge hugs.

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. We are grateful that if she could not be here with us, that she is healed and whole with the Lord. We look forward to the day when we will get to meet her. We love her so much.

  • Good luck. I hope your family can find peace and happiness during this time
  • Sorry you're feeling so lousy and exhausted. That's no way to go into a long day of travel. How did the trip go?

  • Well, we all made it alive, which counts for something, right? The first very short flight was wonderful - girls did great. Then we had a 4 hour layover and boarded the transatlantic flight right at naptime, so scratch that. DD2 screamed for about the first 5 hours of the 10 hour flight because she was so exhausted but couldn't sleep. She got her second wind then and ended up not sleeping the entire flight. People, we arrived in the US at 11:30pm our time and the kid had woken up at 5:30 in the morning.
Then there was DD1, who was great the first half of the flight and then told me she didn't feel good and threw up. She slept quite a bit but was miserable and had a temp. And when we were landing she threw up again (thankfully I had packed extra clothes for them just in case). Awesome.
And my cough got really, really bad because of the dry air during the flight.

All around a sucky trip, but we're here, and I told myself at some point that really, except for the flight this is a great time to be sick since we have live-in help with the kids (my mom, brother, and SIL), we don't have to miss any work, and we have absolutely no obligations for the next week.

  • Yikes! That sounds like a miserable trip! You must be exhasuted and frazzled. I hope you can all rest and recover over the next few days. Enjoy your time with family!

  • You poor thing....I hope you get some rest and everyone gets to feeling better :-(

  • WOOF. Reading that made me cringe. That sounds miserable! I'm sorry that the second part of the trip was so rough. You are being so positive about this, though, which is amazing. Hope everyone feels better soon.

  • Well, things have taken a turn for the worse again. DD1 had a fever of 102 this afternoon and we gave her tylenol, now it's up to between 103.8 and 104.7 :( I put a call in to the on-call pediatrician, and I really, really, hope we don't have to take her to the hospital. The last thing we need with jet lag and having come overseas to visit my mom is to wind up there. Now I need serious T&Ps

  • Good luck, Kelly! We're still sick over here, too. :( It's miserable to be sick and traveling! I remember I had strep while I was living in Europe.  That was the most miserable few days of my entire life.  I hope that everyone perks up and you can have a wonderful rest of your vacation!

Oh honey. I'm sorry.  What a mess.  T&P that she is feeling much better today--and that you and your other DD don't get sick!
Well, she got it from me, so I guess the good thing is that I'll be done with it soon, I hope. I'm still coughing up a lung 24/7 after a week of having it, but the lack of sleep and traveling have surely made mine worse that it otherwise would have been. My hopes aren't high that DD2 won't get it since she's currently bed-sharing with me, but we'll see.

  • @kelly321 - how are you and your people?

We are so thankful that our second daughter, Lillian Elizabeth "Lily", was born healthy and happy on February 11, 2013.  We love her to pieces.

We lost our first daughter, Hannah Grace on May 4, 2011.  She was buried on May 14 during a beautiful service at my home church. • @ally2011, thanks for asking! Well, it's 3 am and DD2 is up for the day, but that's ok because we went to bed at 2pm yesterday (ah, jet lag). My cough is starting to get a little better but DD1 hit 104° again yesterday afternoon. I just heard her crying, but right now we're going with the healthy/sick principle. The healthy adult (DH) gets the sick child (DD1), and the sick adult (me) gets the healthy child (DD2). DD1 has stopped crying now, so I assume DH is taking care of her. We sleep in separate parts of the house at least until jet lag is over because the sleep schedules are so crazy and we don't want the girls waking each other up.
@expatmama, I am very jealous that you have a pedi over here. :( When we came for 5 months when DD1 was a year old we got her in with my childhood pedi, and that's the office I called for her this time, too. I guess we're kind of patients there. We have a new travel insurance this time around (also with our credit card), and I'm not eager to try it out. When I had my m/c over here it was a huge pain in the butt with our old insurance.

  • @kelly321 - I hope you keep getting better and that your dd is not far behind you!  That is so hard.  I am glad you at least got some sleep, being tired makes everything so much worse.  Hugs to you!
