elimination communication

Have any moms tried or are using elimination communication? My oldest sister told me she wants to try it with her next child and so I looked it up and am curious. It seems like it would be stressful?

Re: elimination communication

  • On the other thread I was telling the one person that it was a topic I was THINKING about starting a thread on. It is a completely different topic right? So I thought it would be fine to create a discussion on it...
What is wrong with me starting this thread?

  • @dionysian I think the problem is that you haven't introduced yourself. As mentioned in previous comments, there has been trouble with others just jumping in making random trouble for the fun of it or trying to post links to get sales elsewhere, ect. You seem to me someone who wants to join the community, to that I say welcome. Best bet is to start a thread and just introduce yourself. Nothing to personal, maybe a general are of where your from, how many LOs you have. Whatever you feel comfortable sharing. Also as mentioned in the previous post read the 'new here'. But once you get aquainted with everyone, this is a great place for support and info, venting, problem shooting, ect. Almost anything you need it to be. Hang in there!
  • I read about this with my first and it really only seems like a good idea if you start from day one. I don't have that much time on my hands.

Right. And with a toddler running around? Lolololololol
  • I'm having enough trouble getting my toddler to use the toilet. A group I'm in on Facebook has some women who have done it pretty successfully, but I don't have the patience.
  • See that's what I keep thinking! Too stressful! But of course my boyfriends client ( he's a hairstylist) told him that she has been doing it since day 1 and that its not that stressful...I just couldn't imagine being in the middle of nowhere and trying to communicate with a small infant " hold on while mommy and daddy find a bathroom". I mean do children of that age even have the capacity to hold it for even just a minute if need be?
  • That's the whole point though, you make sure that A, you know the baby's signals so you can do it well in advance, and B, you also make a noise they associate with going so that you can have them go on your schedule as well. You also don't need a toilet for infants, a small bowl works fine and then you find somewhere to empty it. The book Diaper Free Baby is actually really interesting of you want a read. As nunzchucks and I said, no time due to toddlers.

  • I'll have to find that book! Thanks for the info and recommendation!
  • I have never tried to be part of an online community so I really didn't understand what I was supposed to do and I am now on track after screwing up royally. Sorry for the mess I made!
  • @skittler2‌ what does ss mean? When I looked it up it stated step son, so I'm a bit confused when you said "ss away"
  • Oh haha thanks! Elimination communication definitely didn't fit on any of the other posts.
  • I definitely don't do elimination communication, but when it comes to poos DS starts to toot and grunt, so a couple of times we've held him on the potty to poo (more out of sheer laziness and entertainment value than trying to create a habit or "teach" him anything) successfully.  He's pretty predictable with that though.  He pees a zillion times a day though (smallest bladder ever, I swear), so it'd be pretty frustrating and time consuming to do any kind of EC with him.  Kudos to those who do, but I really think they downplay the accidents that happen.

  • MegK82  this is exactly what I was thinking after my initial thoughts of  "WTH is this?" were answered by reading through.

  • Wait, this is a real thing??

  • @Katherine200713‌ that's awesome. The book does say it's a fair amount of your kid training you to read their signs as well as anything else. I'd love to have been able to do it but I had way too much on my plate in the beginning.
