short version: Our sweet Juniper Elizabeth arrived safely on 12/11 at 12:53 pm. She's 8 lbs 7 oz of pure sweetness.
Long version: labor started at 1 pm the day before Junie was born, while the housekeeper was cleaning our house (was that the last possible thing left on my to do list before baby?). Contractions started out regular at 6 min apart and got closer together but not yet more intense. When they were 4 min apart we went in to L&D, but 1st DH made me pancakes with blackberries. So sweet!
All was well at L&D but they said I could labor there or at home until ctx were not only close together but intensifying, so we headed back home. We were back in L&D by 8 pm with strong ctx right on top of each other.
On the way in, we almost panicked bc there was a big rig crashed across the road and on fire! It was blocking the only access road out of our neighborhood! We thought we were in a movie or something. Luckily, there was enough room for a single file of cars to pass around the end of the truck, so we eventually got past.
Unfortunately, this whole time I was having back labor bc Junie had gotten herself sunny side up. At the hospital, the tub gave me some relief, and I opted for the epidural a bit earlier than I'd planned at just 4 cm (because holy moley back labor is brutal). It was a huge relief, I was able to rest some, and happily my ctx kept chugging along. Epi was in around 1230 am.
By 7, I was 9 cm but Junie was still at -2 station and waters were bulging. My OB had just come on call (yay!) so she came in to break my waters. I took a couple of hrs to labor down (ouch - epidural did not help this bit). Then it was pushing time for about 1.5 hrs. DH was totally involved, watching everything ( I mean every gory bit!) and keeping me as encouraged as he could.
When Junie was finally out, my OB had me reach down and pull her right into my arms and onto my chest myself. It was incredible!!
I'm so glad my OB got to be there; she's been with us through all our struggles and knows how amazing this is for us. And I'm so grateful for DH who was awesome during labor and is an amazing partner in our adventure as parents.
We brought Junie home today and I couldn't believe it but the crazy CA storms had cleared some and there were RAINBOWS in the sky - one above the hospital, and one we saw over our own neighborhood!
I'm so happy to share this joy with all of you. I'm so grateful for the Pgal board and you wonderful ladies. You've helped me so much!!!
And now the best part - pics! One is from just a couple mins after birth and the other is just before leaving the hospital
