CD Feedback Requested

So I've tried our cloth stash a couple of times and it just seemed insanely bulky on our LO. I popped one on today, a size one Thirsties cover and prefold, and I think I've got it on okay and that it doesn't look as much like it will eat him alive... would love some feedback as we've never used CD before. Not sure how well you'll be able to tell from the photo but I can always take more ;-) TIA

ETA: I used the angel wing fold, I think. The trifold makes it even bulkier!

Re: CD Feedback Requested

  • He looks precious!

I use the angel wing fold, but I fold the top over in the front for a little extra absorbancy. It does give DS a massive fluffy butt, but I'm okay with that.

  • CDs are bulky. I think that's part of the deal, especially on a newborn they tend to look extra fluffy. HOw big is your LO? IS it a newborn size pre fold?

I think its super cute! And your LO is adorable.

We use the same combo and I think Lucy only looks slightly less bulky than your precious baby.

  • We have NB prefolds and fitteds...  and use them with NB covers.  Still a bit bulky, but I think that's just how it goes.  As long as there are no leaks, they are doing their job.

  • Thank you all for the feedback! We are the first of our friends in the area to have a LO and even those we know with kids or planning to have them don't plan to CD. I have a feeling we are doing a lot of things differently than our friends have/will do.

@MmmPopcorn‌, @carafern‌ Thanks :) It really is so hard to put him down because I love staring at him.

@moroccojade‌ I've started telling Jackson good poop and pee with diaper changes and when I can tell he is going. Maybe next week we will try breaking out a bowl! Anything for less laundry, right? :)

He was 8.12lbs at his two week on 12/3. And he was at 21.5" long. By our home scale which only goes to half pound increments he is now 10lbs.

The prefolds I have are all size one Thirsties, Bummies and small GMDs. So that is probably contributing some. I knew to expect fluffier, I guess I just wasn't expecting this fluffy! Maybe part of it is a learning curve too as even with the angel wing fold we've gotten poop on covers. No leaks, but definitely dirty covers.
  • Cloth is super bulky but I like it because it gives me something to hold on to! DD is back in sposies this weekend to clear up a rash and her butt is so small! Also, if you have small GMD prefolds, those will be pretty bulky on a 10 pounder. I think he looks great!

Also, I've had better luck with the jelly roll fold for containing newborn poo. This video was helpful!

  • I'll pretty much echo what others have said.

    Adorable LO!!

CDs are bulky but the babe's grow into them and you surprise yourself needing a bigger size!

  • @Love4Science‌ The video was a great refresher on folds! It had been so long since we took the CD class that it reminded me of some of the finer points and tricks. Back in disposables for the night but will have DH watch the video with me tomorrow so we can both keep him in cloth for the day!

    Thanks again all :)
  • emw87, how much did your LO weigh at birth? We want to use the BG 4.0s when DS is big enough, but we don't know how long to wait.

  • So I was lazy this morning and threw on one of the four GMD fitted workhorses I splurged on with the idea of saving them for nighttime. OMG they are so much easier than prefolds right now and seem so much less bulky. If only the weren't SO much more money and so size specific. At least they were cheaper then AIO's.
  • We use one size pockets (GoGreen Champs and Alva 4.0 Color Snaps). DD is long and lean (22.5ins and 9lbs 10oz) so even being on the second row of snaps they are bulkier than what they were on DS, he has a short stout build.

In just a onsie and pants she looks like she has a major case of FUPA going on. Whenever we leave the house I make sure to put a dress or tunic over her onsie and leggings so she doesn't look as ridiculous. ;)
