Re: Mucus Plug?

  • It could be, or did you have sex before that? Sorry to be gross, but it could be any number of things.

Anyway, the mucus plug can regenerate, and it can be weeks before you go into labor after losing it, so I wouldn't be super anxious. I will be 35 weeks Monday, and I'll probably pack a hospital bag soon because it's good to have for when you're ready to go.

  • Nope my fiancé is sick so we haven't been able to have sex recently. I've been having a bit of pressure and pain the last week and my ob checked me and didn't tell me if I had any changes so I suspect I'm still closed up. I'm just scared are nervous.

  • Like PP said, it could be but even if it was it might not be all of it and it could regenerate. Losing the MP is not an indicator of impending labor on its own.

We believe this happened to me around 33 weeks, but I had the FFN test and it was negative. Two weeks later, I'm still pregnant and showing no signs of getting ready to go yet.

If you're worried, just keep a look out for other signs (water breaking, contractions etc) but I wouldn't freak out over it.

  • Like the PPs said, losing your plug isn't an indication of immediate labor. Also, if that's what you saw, it probably wasn't all of it (it will be A LOT!), and it can regenerate before delivery anyway.
All you can do is have your bag packed, and be ready for whenever your LO decides that it's time to arrive! :)
  • I lost mine with my daughter right before she was born at 39 weeks and 4 days, I lost mine with my son at 34 weeks (I was 3cm dilated and I believe like 95% effaced) he was born at 39 weeks 3 days. So, pack your bag because in the next 5-7 weeks you will have a baby, but this isn't a sign you will go into labor sooner than later.

  • It could have been pieces of it, but sounds like not all of it.
When I lost mine with my second baby, it was like a glob of bloody snot. There was no doubt about what it was.
I started having contractions a few hours later and had my baby the next day. I was 39 weeks also, so chances were it wasn't going to regenerate, and it was a sign labor would begin.
Maybe just tell your Dr next time your in. Keep a look out for contractions until then.

I'd probably start thinking about packing your bag of you haven't done so. 35 or 36 weeks is a good time to get some things together.
Make a list of things you'd like / need that way if the time does come, you can refer back to your list or someone else can get things ready for you.

  • Losing the mucus plug pretty much just means you are possibly starting to dialate/cervix changing. Some people go into labor within hours, days or even WEEKS after. and as PP'S said it can regenerate. i lost mine yesterday but apparently not all of it because another big chunk came out this morning. The best way to describe what it looks like is a big glob of snot. Some looks clear others may have blood tinged hint "bloody show".
  • Everyone is so different. I lost my mucus plug at 34 weeks with DD. It was a small amount and had a speck of blood in it. She was born that night by spontaneous water rupture. I didn't have my bag packed. From my experience, having a bag packed is never a bad thing just in case.
