Short cervix

Hi All,
I just had my 16 week check up, babies are doing great (pregnant with twins), but doc measured my cervix and it's already short, 22mm. I'm rather nervous that I already have a short cervix at just 16 weeks. Doc prescribed me progesterone suppositories, no sex and no exercise.. Next check up next week. Anyone else going through the same thing?

Re: Short cervix

  • I am almost 20 weeks and my cervix is 2.6 and short, but not dangerously so.  They are monitoring every week with ultrasounds to make sure that it does not drop. I am also doing PIO.  I had twins and my cervix went from 4cm at 20 weeks to .6 at 21w6d!  I had no warning what so ever.  I had to go on hospital bed rest for two months and my girls were born at 30 weeks. I don't mean to scare you though.  At least you are aware of your short cervix.  Take it as easy as possible! How often are they going to monitor you?

  • Hi ladies, thanks for the update. I will be monitored every week to 2 weeks. So I guess it's a good thing that my doc already wanted to check it out. Glad I found out now instead of at 20 weeks. Although, I'm going on vacation next week for Christmas with my whole family and thinking about just canceling.. Don't want to be under any extra stress and too much walking..
  • Aw I'm sorry you might not be able to go on your vacation! Have you asked your doctor what they think about taking a trip?
  • I found out today that i got a short cervix and im going to have another ultrasound on Wednesday. I understand how u feel right now. But i will pray for us
  • Last month my cervix measured 3.37 cm today (15 weeks 5 days) it was measured at 1.7 cm with funneling. My MFM suggested a cerclage and I was at the hospital within 3 hours for it to be placed. I will be checked again in 10 days, just before the holidays. I am on bed rest till then and I was also given Indocin.

I am still in the hospital waiting to go to the bathroom and then I will be discharged.

@lakingsfan2015‌ good luck! I hope the cerclage works!
@Momtobe352‌ fingers are crossed for Wednesday. What is it measured at?
@mylittleladies1229‌ I see my doctor on Monday before my trip. Hoping my cervix will be above 25mm. If it's smaller than 22mm, (what it was first recorded at) I will automatically cancel my holiday plans even if doc says it's ok.
I'm just not ready to have my life on hold already. Anyone else feel that way? There is so much to be done that I wasn't prepared to stop so soon. Maybe there's still time to bake some cookies
  • @lakingsfan2015‌ remind me, are you having twins? They wouldn't give me a cerclage for twins. The doctors told me there was no evidence that supported it worked for twins.

I'm so scarred by my experience that every day I go to the doctor I make sure to run errands beforehand and get things done that need to get done because I feel like it might be my last chance. When I had the .6 cervix they put me in a wheel chair in the ultrasound room and wheeled me over to the hospital....where I stayed for 2 months. Def scarred me!
  • @mylittleladies1229 I am having twins and my OB actually said that about it not supporting twins but the MFM said why NOT do it, the cerclage will hold it together and if it doesn't it was a bandaid till it to doesn't but it isn't going to hurt to try.

Due May 2015 with twin GIRLS!

  • @mayflowers35‌ I had a lot of Braxton hicks starting around 18 weeks and then the day I went to the hospital I felt two sharp pains somewhere down there and it made me double over. I thought I was over reacting by going to get checked but thank goodness I did.
  • Hi all. So got some not great news from the doc, Christmas holiday is cancelled and I'm on bed rest. My cervix started funneling, but my cervix length is a touch smaller. Going back again in one week to check it, and if it's any worse, I'm getting a cerclage. I have a full time MFM and I'm having twins. He never said anything about it not working, and definitely highly suggests getting it..(I'm also taking progesterone suppositories) Probably because I'm only 17 weeks. He also told me that I'm starting to get very very light contractions. Scares me like crazy. I don't like this news. Especially since this past week I've been really good about keeping well rested and my feet up.
My focus is on March. I have to make it to March..... It's so far away :(
  • Oh man I am sorry that you are on bed rest.  I know that every day can feel like an eternity, but you are doing the best thing for your babies.  Hopefully the cerclage does help and you will be able to get off bed rest.  Who knows, I had my girls two years ago and maybe the protocol was different at that time.  Anyway while you are on bed rest you might want to check out the high risk board and https://www.keepemcookin.com/bedrest.aspx
  • I had the same thing and was super worried. I'm fine so far!! The procedures they do now are much less invasive than years ago. Hope this helps.
