L&D staff thank-you's?

Is anyone planning on doing anything for the nurses/staff after baby arrives? I know as a nurse, nothing makes our shift better than a sweet card or food (see: bagels and donuts!!!) from our patients/their families.

Re: L&D staff thank-you's?

  • We are. I did little goodie bags with Chapstick, scented hand sanitizer, chocolates, and a thank you note. (Another nurse here too :) )

  • I plan on sending DH down the street to Panera or Einstein's before we're discharged to bring back some bagels for both the days and night staff (everyone always forgets about nights or days eats it all) to say thanks for taking care of us, and prob a card as well.
  • I may make an birth announcement card and give it to the midwife, they have a board of then all posted, but no gift. Last time with DS I didn't do anything because my midwife sucked, but I like both of mine this time!
  • I guess I should have just made the "yes" answer without the food portion in case of something else, but clearly bagels and donuts are on my mind.
  • I think it's a nice idea, but I probably won't be organized enough to do something ahead of time. Sending DH out for bagels sounds nice.
  • We will bring something in at the beginning of our stay. I have a scheduled Csec. I think bringing snacks gets you better treatment. ;)
Just being cheeky, I am sure we would get treated great either way but they totally deserve it!
  • I didn't really know this was a thing, but after seeing it here in another thread, I plan to. Is a basket of chocolates ok? I figure they can set it at the main desk area for all to partake.

  • @januarymommy2015‌ - anything is more than fine! But yes, who doesn't love chocolates?!???
  • One time when I worked In l&d, we had a mom order a bunch of hot n ready pizzas from little Caesars, that was probably the best thank you! It's hard for nurses on any floor to stop and eat, much less get lunch, so this surprise was awesome!

  • I didn't vote. I would definitely like to do something for the staff if I can be organized enough to do so. I wish we had an einstein's or Panera in our area... Little Caesar's sounds like a good idea (it's always pretty okay when it's hot from the store... after that, not so much). :) hmmm.

  • Let's see how they treat me first... ;)

I honestly never thought about it. I could the husband to stop and grab donuts and Joe for everyone...

    Still, pending their attitude..

  • I didn't vote because I want to bring cookies to L&D when I check in to give birth, as a good will thank you in advance. If I don't have time to bake them in the hours before before I check in (natural birth, so I'll be taking my sweet time arriving) then I'll have DH/sister pick up a box of Ferrero Rocher.

  • I was so frazzled last time with baby being born on the 4th of July and the c section that sadly I didn't do this although I had wanted too- I really loved my two l & d nurses - this time I'll plan in advance! Thanks for the reminder @elleswarth‌
  • My husband brought Dunkin donuts, Einstein bagels, and Starbucks coffee and I have to say the nurses were in love with us. They said that kind of stuff really leaves an impression so we will definitely be doing that again :)

  • We brought in cookies from a local bakery when DD was born. I made sure to delineate one box for days and one for nights. We will probably do the same thing again.

(The only reason I had stuff ready ahead of time was because I knew I was being induced.)

    Jan 15  NOV siggy challenge:

  • In the past, I have just sent thank you notes with a Starbucks gift card.

@HappyMonkey817‌ making something appeals to me. I was considering knitting mittens. What do you think you would crochet?
  • When my daughter Reese was born we had a basket of Reese's candies in our room for all the nurses to help themselves to when they came in. After we left we sent a box of individual bags of gourmet popcorn as a thank you. We had an amazing experience and I plan to do something similar thus time too. If only there was a candy or snack that shared a name with the little guy!

    Love this idea!

Nora was born right around Easter, so I made up an Easter basket full of bunnies and eggs, and wrote them a heart felt note in a card.

  • I loved my nurses last time when I had DD, and I brought them a gift basket with cookies, muffins, etc from Mrs. Beasley's.

  • I am planning in doing something, unless I have that control freak bitch nurse that I had Wednesday night. I won't be giving her anything. The first and second time I was admitted for PTL, the nurses were commenting on my crazy knee high socks and several of them had some on as well. So I was thinking about giving out crazy socks along with some goodies.
  • We will definitely do something. There's a Dunkin Donuts in the hospital so I'll probably get some gift cards for the nurses.

  • The plan is to bring Costco muffins and orange juice, maybe a Costco chocolate cake.  I haven't decided yet.

  • I had a great nurse last time, but I don't buy presents for people I don't have a long-standing relationship with. It's a bit much, in my opinion. I hope the great staff members get rewarded in their annual performance reviews or what not, and I have no problem writing down comments if asked.

  • @robsbabygirl08‌ - that must be a nurse thing. The more ridiculous, the better, is how I like my socks that I wear with my obnoxious polka dot danskos :) it's the only "flair" I get to have other than my badge holder. I usually find cute ones at Target. Good idea!

This! I don't even know if I own any plain socks. And yes, target has a great selection. I go for no show in the summer, knee in the winter. I guess as nurses, we get stuck in scrubs, so we have to accessorize where we can. Lol

  • We always bring a big box of wrapped chocolates for nurses/MW/OB to share.
    DD#1 (6), DD#2 (4), DD#3 (0)
  • I have a large mason jar with chocolates and hi-chews stuffed in my hospital bag thstvwill sit in our room. Since DH is likely going to miss the birth and my parents aren't familiar with the area, I figured I better have something ready rather than sending someone out.
  • We are delivering at my DHs work place. It may not be during the stay, but there will be thank you goodies for the nurses. He's nights, so will be sure to start with them :-)
