Re: Clickii Pole: Car seat side?

  • My car manual said no center.  And I had read somewhere that you will instictively protect the driver's side so he sits behind me.

I had to put him behind the passenger or else my (driver's) seat wouldn't go back far enough.

    This
  • SS. Baby is on passenger's side and DS is on driver's side in DH's car and the opposite way in my car. I drive a sedan that doesn't have enough leg room so I put her behind me so that DH would have more leg room on the passenger seat since DS's car seat faces forward. My car is a manual and DH doesn't know how to drive it so if we are in my car, I'm always the driver. Normally I drive DH"s car though since he has the larger vehicle, unless he needs it in the evening or weekend (drives a company car during the day).

  • Behind the passenger seat in mah minivan!)
  • When I had my first, she was in the center. Now I have her behind the driver's seat and the baby behind the passenger's seat. DH drives my car a lot and the infant seat wouldn't allow for the seat to be moved all the way back, which he needs because he's very tall.

My car can't support the car seat in the center (not flat), so LO is behind the driver as well.

Same. I drive a Fiat, it's a miracle I can fit her car seat in it at all!

  • Center. My car manual said it was fine, so that's what we did. It's on the passenger side in DH's car though.
  • Center in DH's truck with a kid in a booster on either side.
Behind passenger in my minivan, moved the boosters to the 3rd row.
  • Behind passenger seat. The guy at the car seat inspection recommended that because when parking on the street, you wouldn't have to go near traffic to get baby out of the car.
  • Behind the passenger seat.  I was paranoid about not having it in the middle, but the Aton's "Telescopic Linear Side Impact Protection"  and load leg (only seat on the market with one) is supposed to help make it "just as safe" as being in the center, regardless of location.

  • I voted in the middle- In my car it's in the middle, in my husands it's behind the passenger seat

  • We also have the cybex aton Q and have it in the passenger side because of safety getting her out if the car when parallel parking. However, that being said, neither if our cars have latch available for the center. In our next vehicle I'd love a car that would allow for a center install for greater safety.

  • I was under the impression that the center was safest as well bc of the side air bags. Both of my cars have center latches ('09 and '14 models). I was curious as to how this would work if I have another kid and need two car seats in the back.

There are very few cars out there that have center latch. A seatbelt install is just as safe. The latch install is just for ease of use.
This is true- but with the "hump" in the middle back seat of the floor in the back of the car, I could not use the Atons Q front load leg if we used a seatbelt install.

  • Ours is in the center installed with a base and seatbelt. I thought this was safest? We used the seatbelt rather than the latch, as the manual said one or the other and never both.

I thought if seat belt was used that the base was not used. In other words I didn't think you needed the base if you're not going to use latch.

The base is a convenience option. You install the base with the seatbelt just like latch. That way you don't have to install the seat every time you go somewhere. If you did a baseless install with your infant seat you'd have to buckle the seat in every time. Whereas by installing the base you just have to click the seat in and out when you leave.
    Yes this. :)

Oh I see. So you are using the base with the seat belt instead of base with latch. I don't know if the Q has this option but I'm going to look into it now. If it does have this option then is have to choose between center position, car seat install, without leg load versus side positron, latch install, with leg load. I think I'd rather go with center in that case safety wise but I don't know . Are most accidents that result in harm to infants from side impact accidents? Cause if so -- the front load leg isn't going to do much protection i assume.

  • We have a base in the center of DH's car, on the passager side of my car (not by choice that's just how the seats fold down) and driver side of my moms mini van. Bases all over the place!!
  • DD is behind the passenger seat right now bc I was thinking I'd always be getting her out on the sidewalk side. I don't like it on that side for space reasons, I'm going to move her behind me.

  • DDS is also on the passenger side for me. My car's manual recommended either behind the driver or passenger, so that is what I went with over the center.

I initially tried the driver side. When I put te bucket seat in my car to get our installation inspected, I was about a week from my due date. I had never driven my car with the bucket seat in and didn't realize exactly how far forward I would have to sit. My belly was touching the steering wheel.

Luckily the car seat inspector took pity on me and moved it to the passenger side for me when I arrived at my appointment.
