*update-loss mentioned* FTM..Twins and Spotting?

Hi! I just found out yesterday that we are expecting twins. We have been going to a fertility dr so we weren't TOO surprised, but still very excited. I am 6w4d and have had 3 Miscarriages. My question is if any of you had spotting with your multiple pregnancies? I had some light red Tuesday and some more today. It's not much and it turns brown instantly then goes away. We had an US yesterday and saw 2 HBs. I'm extremely nervous about the spotting! Thank you.

Re: *update-loss mentioned* FTM..Twins and Spotting?

  • I had some spotting (reddish brown) around 11 weeks for just a few days. I was ordered on bed rest for 5 days and I never had it again. Please go see your doctor, this is an emergency visit, in my opinion. Even MORE so with your miscarriage history.

Congratulations and I really hope all is good!

  • My doctor hasn't been worried about any of it. They said today that it may be from my exam yesterday.
  • However I'm freaking out!

I had spotting at 8 weeks and 10 weeks- red and then turning to brown.  You are seeing a RE and they have monitored your progesterone- so honestly all there is to do is to rest, drink plenty of water, let your Dr. know and try (I know this is hard) to not stress.

I rested both days, drank water, and didn't even call my Dr. since there was little they could do for me.I told them about it at my next appointment- but no emergency visit.
  • @chickaboo1974‌ Did they ever find a reason for it? I have been resting all afternoon. I was really hoping for a non spotting pregnancy this time. Especially since it was a Medicated cycle. :( It just doesn't make me feel like things are going in the right direction. Especially added in that I've had mild cramping.
  • No there was no reason.  I also had some mild cramps- before my beta draw. There might not be an identifiable reason
  • You give me some hope @chickaboo1974‌ I really had high hopes with this pregnancy. I've been through tons of testing with the fertility dr and they can't really find anything wrong. So we were hoping the past miscarriages were just really bad luck.
  • I also bled bright red during week 12. It was scary, but the pregnancy was fine. Congrats!

  • Yes, I had spotting at both 6 and 7 weeks. Went to RE both times, heard heartbeats, was told it was 'old blood' and to bed rest for 3 days. I actually had a lot of blood, like a very bad period but it did go away after a few days.

  • @babys2014‌ @vpine‌ Thank you for your success stories! I'm hoping mine is nothing big deal. The thought of another miscarriage is too much.
  • I had spotting/light bleeding weeks 5-7 with my current pregnancy due to a subchorionic hematoma (basically a pocket of blood at the implantation site). I then had a big bleed at 13 weeks...not certain whether that bleed was due to the SCH or due to a low-lying placenta, but thankfully no bleeding since then and so far the pregnancy is progressing normally (currently 21w+5). Wishing you a successful and healthy pregnancy -- I know spotting is super scary especially with a miscarriage history.

  • A SCH is detectable on an US, right? Are they detectable right away?

My understanding is that the SCH refers to the pooled blood/clot that often forms at an area of bleeding (in the case of SCH, the source of the bleeding, which you can think of as like a little wound, is often from vessels near the site of implantation). So you can't see the source of bleeding itself on ultrasound, or 'cut' if you want to think of it like that, only the blood that pools. However, whether the blood pools and forms a clot visible on ultrasound can also depend on the location of the bleed - for example, if the source of the bleeding is close to the cervix, often it won't pool in this case and it will just come out and you won't see anything on the ultrasound. This is actually generally a better situation than a hematoma where the blood collects in the uterus. Hope that helps.

  • @blueberries8‌ Thank you for explaining. I'm still new to all this. They did see some fluid in my uterus both ultrasounds, so my dr seems to think that may be what the bleeding was from. It has stopped now. Praying it stays away!

I had spotting only after exams, but after almost every exam.  When you're pregnant, there's a lot of blood swelling up in that region and it can be delicate to being messed with.  I also know of a lot of twin Moms who had SCHs with heavy spotting and have two healthy babies.  I know that being pregnant after miscarriage (and in my case, followed by 13 years of IF) is difficult.  It's easy to worry and let worry suck the joy out of it.  Honestly, though - chances are everything is just fine.  Worry won't help - there's nothing they can do this early in a pregnancy unless your hormone levels are to blame - which I'm sure they checked.  So, do your best to relax, have a nice cup of hot chocolate and watch a funny movie.  I suggest "Galaxy Quest."  It's my go-to when I'm stressed.  ;)

  • @auntjessy‌ Thank you so much for your kind words! It's nice to know other people understand the worry that we go through. We watched "Tammy" Saturday night in order to lift my spirits. :) We will find out Thursday how my little blueberries are doing.

I am 10 weeks with twins from IVF. I have had spotting and heavy bleeding since week 4, on and off. At first it is bright red for a day (like period) and then turns to dark brown spotting for a few days. I am still on endometrin vaginal inserts so my RE and now OB concluded I was hitting my cervix with the inserts (3 times per day). However, I didn't have any cramping or abdominal pain so while it is super scary I wasn't too worried. I did call my RE and now OB each time. I had an extra US and all is good. My OB told me that if I saturate a pad within 2 hours than to call the emergency number. My bleeding was never that heavy. I have also been on pelvic rest since egg transfer becausebof the bleeding. Best of luck!

  • @LAO12‌ l so needed your reply this morning. I woke up to period like blood. It was a good bit. :( luckily we are on the way to our weekly dr appointment. I still have a bad feeling. I feel like my symptoms are gone.
  • We found out at our 7 wk 3 day ultrasound today that Baby A's heart stopped. I'm devastated. I'm still
Bleeding and very much so worried about baby B. Does anyone have any advice or experience with a remaining twin?
  • Thank you both. It's hard to feel as though I am miscarrying yet I still have one baby left. We didn't get to hear it, but we saw it.
  • @llittle7, I am so sorry you are going through this. Thinking and Praying that baby B is a stick baby.
  • So sorry for your loss of Baby A :( Sending lots of good vibes for an uneventful and healthy pregnancy moving forward.
