My RE brought me in for a really early US this morning d/t spotting x1 week. We saw one gestational sac measuring about 8.5mm (average of 2 diameters), but it was empty. My RE does not seem super concerned about not seeing the yolk sac. He says I'm only 5w2d (I thought 5w4d) and sometimes it takes a few more days to see the yolk sac. I am scheduled for another US on Friday (6w1d). Did anyone else see an empty sac that progressed well?

3 Clomid Cycles in 2008- symptomatic, US just showed a tilted uterus, otherwise normal, HSG normal. DH has an ejaculatory duct obstruction and a congenital absence of the vas deferens. This is common with cystic fibrosis carriers, but he doesn't have cystic fibrosis. Please, PLEASE stick this time!!!!
I didn't have my first u/s until 7w, also due to spotting - so I don't have first hand experience. But I saw several ladies on my BMB who didn't see a HB and yolk sac until 6+ weeks. 5w2d is still early.
Me 33, DH 37 -- TTC since Jan'12 -- Low AMH (0.78) & endo, SA w/ low motility IUI's 1-3 = BFN, IVF converted to IUI 4/13 = BFN IVF 1.2: 8R 6M 4F -- 2 blastocysts frozen, FET 8/15 = BFP!! Beta #s = 445;1,098; 9,545 -- EDD 5/2 -- Team Pink!
Thanks for your input ladies. I wasn't expecting to see a heart beat, but I did think we would see a yolk sac.

Don't mind a response from a current lurker (hope to be comfortable enough to intro after my u/s on Wed)... I had an u/s at 5w1d and all we saw was one empty sac...the follow-up u/s at 5w6d saw two embryos measuring right on track with cardiac activity. As others have said a few days makes a huge difference that early! Good luck to you!!
@bcw2009 Thank you for sharing. That is the kind of success story I was hoping someone would post to make me more optimistic. My next appointment is at 6w1d. I could go at 5w5d, but RE's office is almost 2 hours away. DH would rather wait so there are more drastic changes. Do you happen to know how big your sac was at 5w1d?

It was small...5mm. The sacs were both still smaller than they should have been at the 5w6d ultrasound too-which is why I am still cautiously optimistic. Hoping that it was still just on the early side and the technology has a margin of error with such small measurements...
@bcw2009 At least things were progressing. Good luck!

First ultrasound at 5weeks and a bit. Not a yolk sac in sight. And while we did lose one along the way, I'm 29 weeks and counting. Big deep breaths!! It's early
Married 2007 3 Clomid IUIs -- BFNs IVF #1 never made it to transfer On "egg health" cocktail DHEA/CoQ10/FRC/Pregnitude/Melatonin Starting IVF #2 for Feb 2013 Follistim/Menopur/Ganirelix Cancelled mid-cycle due to high P4 levels early on. OCPs again for IVF 2.5 mid-March. IVF 2.5 transferred two "gorgeous" 5-day blasts and BFFN. Even REI is baffled On indefinite hold until a huge stroke of serendipity led me to IVF 3 May 2014
Testing found positive cardiolipins/APS, now on lovenox and intralipid infusions
Transfer of 2 5-day blasts and (FINALLY) BFFP!!
1st ultrasound shows two sacs and two HB, but one is sluggish, almost expecting vanishing twin
Subsequent ultrasound confirmed vanishing twin, but my other Little critter looks fantastic!

@Ecarabeo217 Thanks for sharing. I'm just impatiently waiting until Friday, but I love hearing success stories in the meantime.

I had a 5w ultrasound and all we saw was a gestational sac. My nurse was very happy with that. I think you're better off waiting for 6w1d for your next ultrasound in hopes you can see a heartbeat!
**siggy warning** **everyone welcome**

I had super early ultrasounds with both of my pregnancies (around 5 weeks) and we only saw the gestational sac both times - I have a 2 1/2 year old and I'm 32 weeks pregnant with #2. Good luck at your next ultrasound!!
@bcw2009 It went well. We were able to see fetal cardiac activity. RE said the HR looked a little slow, but he wasn't concerned yet. We go back next Friday and if all looks well will be released to the regular OB.
