[Losses mentioned]

As I mentioned in the weekly check-in, I had an MRI on Tuesday to check for uterine abnormalities. Yesterday DH and I met with our RE to discuss the results. The MRI showed that everything was completely normal. No uterine septum. Not even any cysts on my ovaries (I've had them in the past). This is all good news, I suppose, since I wasn't looking forward to having surgery to remove any hypothetical septum. But the frustrating news is that we still have no answers for why I keep miscarrying.

My RE expressed hesitation over doing IVF in my case. Since we don't know the root cause of my losses, he says he's not sure if IVF would prevent another loss, even with PGD. I asked about doing Femara and IUI, as we had discussed in the past, and he sort of backed off from that option, too, saying that he's concerned about the risk of multiples for me, given that my pregnancies seem to be so touch and go. However, he said that if we want to go that route he will write up the orders for us. He recommended we keep trying on our own, using Crinone after O. He said I can use baby aspirin if I want, but that there's no empirical evidence to support it in the case of someone like me who has tested negative for all clotting factors, etc. He didn't even think DH should see a urologist to further investigate his morph issues (1%), since clearly they are not impeding me getting pregnant.

I am stuck between feeling relieved that there's not a problem and pissed that there's not an identifiable problem we can fix. I WANT TO FIX THINGS, DAMMIT. I am glad my RE is not pushing us into doing something he's not sure will solve our problems, but on the other hand, I'm just so damn frustrated. I don't know what we will do. Likely we will do a natural cycle this month and then see from there.

Oh boy. I'm glad no problems turned up, too, but I'm sorry you got such frustrating results! Since you and your RE (understandably) don't want to do any more treatment without knowing why you've had your losses, are you planning on further testing to do so?

@Davie813 That's the really maddening thing. I've already had all the typical testing for recurrent loss. And everything came back normal. Of course, there are always more tests a person *can* do... I mean, there's a blood draw for everything, right? But there's nothing else specific that my RE is recommending. I have an appointment at the end of the month with a MFM (maternal fetal medicine) specialist and I'm planning to run all this stuff by him, too. We'll see if there's anything else the MFM recommends.

Ugh, not getting any answers is THE WORST. Well maybe the aspirin and crinone will help, I certainly hope they do. I'm sorry this is so frustrating, but I will be keeping my fingers crossed for you. Hugs!

@potatocastillo I've used Crinone after O for my last 2 pregnancies, but obviously it did not prevent losses. However, the baby aspirin will be a new addition. I still might go for Femara/IUI within the next few cycles, just to try something else. It just depends on how impatient I get and how much DH is on board. Since DH heard the RE talk about risk of multiples (which I have told him before, but I swear he only listens to the doctor), I think he's gotten gun shy. In some ways I wish DH had not come with me to the RE appointment so I could tell him only what I wanted to tell him! Is that so wrong?

Unexplained is SOOO frustrating. I'm sorry you didn't get any answers but glad you don't have to have surgery or anything done before being cleared to TTC again. I'm very interested in what your MFM says. When is your appt? I will be keeping my FX!

I am glad that you do not need surgery but it is frustrating not to have an answer. Maybe the aspirin will help? I have worked with a MFM who uses aspirin a lot for recurrent loss. Good luck with you appointment.

I'm so sorry you're left without answers. That's so frustrating. I'll keep my FX that BA does actually do something for you despite your clotting panels turning up normal to this point. We obviously don't know all there is to know about pregnancy loss yet, so maybe the BA will help treat your particular unknown.

@bookishmomma your history is sorta like mine (multiple losses) and we have both been told our clotting factors are normal. i too have no issues with ute. and my genetics came back normal. so i too have no answer for my repeated losses. i started on BA over a year ago and have had 2 losses and an ectopic since then. there is no evidence showing it helps but there it doesn't hurt. in addition, i started heparin injections after O these last couple months, starting with my IVF cycle. that also has no shown proof of helping prevent m/c but it too does not hurt you and doesn't cross the placenta so it wouldn't hurt baby. some say it can help, so i was in the boat of "sure, let's try it since i keep losing them and there's no fucking answer." i really am glad that your ute checks out perfect, you don't need another issue, but i totally get why it's so GD frustrating to NOT have an answer. because there's still the possibility of future losses with this unknown hanging in the air.

i don't get why he won't try IUI with meds... perhaps your egg quality is the serious issue here and you may need a few embies at once to get ONE that makes it, KWIM? if you and hubby are comfortable with risk of multiples, i don't get what the big deal is to RE... anyway, big hugs.

@jodee37 Yeah, our histories are similar. I've definitely stalked spent some time on your blog (you are hilarious, BTW).

My RE will not prescribe me heparin or Lovenox. My RE will let us do meds & IUI, though. All I have to do is call and say I want to do it and he'll prescribe the meds and get me on the schedule. But since he said all that crap in front of DH about risks, DH is now backing off that option. I should have just gone to the appt. alone and kept DH on a "need to know" basis, heh heh.

I have definitely thought about the egg quality issue. My AMH is 1.5, though from what I understand, AMH is quantity, not necessarily quality. I don't know. I just want to do SOMETHING different, ya know? Now that I think about it, maybe I'll just call and get the stupid Femara Rx and do that with TI, just so I feel like I'm doing SOMETHING.

Gah and I know each of our specific histories is different but due to our recurrent losses, that's exactly why mine keeps pushing for IVF. Says they'll get a better look at the egg quality. Says it may not be the answer as the problem for me isn't getting pregnant over the past few years, but staying pregnant....however at this point, he says that's what he'd think is the best option for trying and then we will *know* more or less that we've tried that route and then can keep exploring.

I don't really want to move forward with IVF but hubby and doctor do and now your RE's opinion (on you lol) is giving me more ammo for why not to.

@bookishmomma I wanted to add that even on Femara I only have 2 follies each time. Maybe DH will feel more comfortable if you discuss with the RE not triggering if you get more than 2 follies? My friend's clinic in NJ is strict about not triggering with more than 1-2 so maybe that work for you?

@frenchteachermama Yes, they would still want to monitor me, I suspect for that reason. I just called my RE's office and asked a bunch of questions. We're not going to do Femara this month, but DH and I are going to talk about it possibly for next month.

I'm so sorry about no definitive answer. IF is just so hard and so frustrating.
