Possible IUGR, being induced....*updated*

Hello ladies, I almost got induced on Wednesday d/t a BP spike but got sent home on bed rest since all my bloodwork and urine tests were normal.

I returned today for an US and BP check. My BP isn't terrible, however, US showed that baby is at 14 percentile for weight (6 lb 8 oz) with her belly measuring at 1 percentile. My OB thinks it's possible IUGR d/t issues with the placenta and believes that baby will do better outside.

I know most of us aren't medical professionals and I'm not asking for medical advice. I'm just a worried, scared FTM looking for some T & P. I hope having a small belly doesn't mean other health problems...

Thank you for reading!

  • Thoughts and prayers that all goes well.  I had an ultrasound a couple months ago and they were concerned about the baby's belly size, but then another one two weeks later showed that there were no issues.  I hope that is the case with your LO and that it was just the position.  Please keep us posted.  Over 6lbs. is still a good sized baby!

  • T&P's!  From your siggy, it looks like you're 39.5 weeks so you could be 40 weeks or very close to it by the time you deliver so that's a good thing!  It also sounds like your doctor is doing a good job of monitoring you.  Good luck, I hope that everything goes smoothly and that baby is healthy!

  • Good luck with the induction! Sounds like your baby will definitely benefit from being on the outside.

  • My LO was diagnosed with IUGR at 36 weeks and we delivered at 37 weeks even. He was only 5lbs even below the 10 percentile in weight at birth. We dropped 7% of his weight in 3 days, which is normal but took us two weeks to get back to birth weight. He is thriving well outside and I believe inducing was the right decision. You're almost 40 weeks and 6lbs 8oz estimate doesn't seem to low to me. T&Ps to you and you're little on. Grow baby grow :-).

  • That weight seems fine! Good luck!
  • What's wrong with a 6lb 8oz weight? That's what dd was born at and she came at 38w6d.

I thought the same thing - I'm at 37w and 6 lbs, 5 oz and the doctor seemed concerned. But I was 6 lb, 8 oz at birth, and totally healthy. DH weighed even less. So I am trying not to worry too much - some babies are just smaller than others. Hang in there - I'm sure everything is fine!

My lil man wasn't diagnosed with IUGR until after birth and so far all it has meant was one very hungry outside baby who is otherwise perfectly healthy. I pray yours will be the same. Good luck with your induction! Keep us updated!

I hope she'll be just like your DS, just hungry but otherwise healthy.

Thank you ladies for all your T & Ps! I got my first dose of cytotec at 3pm and currently waiting to see if I will get a second dose. I've had some contractions and they are definitely stronger than those Braxton hicks, but nothing too painful, yet!

  • My baby was diagnosed as iugr. My husband and I were very nervous/stressed out. Our midwives scheduled us to be induced at 39 weeks because they thought he would do better outside, plus I was diagnosed with preeclampsia. Billy was born naturally at 38 weeks, was 6lbs 1oz and has been doing do well these past 2 weeks! The thing to remember is that some babies are just small and the doctors and midwives are just taking every precaution to ensure a healthy baby and mommy. Good luck!
