Re: Bell's palsy...

  • Sorry you're dealing with this! Hopefully everything returns to normal before baby arrives. Fingers crossed for you. I haven't had it, but I have known some friends who have.

  • I've had that but not while pregnant. It takes a while but my face went back to normal. Mine wasn't overly severe but I had to tape one of my eyes to keep it closed and my mouth was a little droopy. Hopefully you will be fine and camera ready when your little one gets here. Did they put you on steroids or give you anything else to help? I believe that's what I was put on for a week or so but it's been almost 10 years.

  • I had it a long time ago. My face slowly returned to normal over 2 weeks. Hopefully if you do have remaining weakness you can get some pictures from your good side or some non smiley ones. By the time baby arrives you might only be able to notice if you do a big cheesey smile.

  • I actually just got over Bell's Palsy earlier this week. I was 35 weeks when it started and it took about two weeks but my face is completely normal now. I opted to do acupuncture which may or may not have shortened recovery time so if there's a good acupuncturist in your area that might be an option for you.

It's an annoying problem but most people make a full recovery. Here's hoping that it goes away before baby is born!
  • all of my experiences with bell's palsy are second-hand.  i have a friend who is now in her 50s who had it when she was pregnant with her youngest and her face mostly went back to normal but not entirely.  my stepdad had it last spring and his face looks normal now, but it took a long time and he still has some issues with his eye on the affected side getting very dry.  i don't know if it hits older people harder though.

  • My cousin had it while pregnant and it went back to normal.  I don't remember how long it took for her to recover but I don't think it was that long.

  • Thank u all for the replies happy to read the positive responses about the recovery as feels like it will last forever! As long as my little one inside is healthy that's all that matters but it's been a very difficult week!

I was given steroids for 5 days they said I caught it quite early as I noticed it straight away on tues morning so just going to wish the days away and hopefully it will be gone soon

    Thanks again everyone :-) xx
  • My mom has had it a few times in the last 10 years or so. I'm sorry you're having to deal with this while pregnant. It seems like it usually takes my mom a few weeks to recover.
