Mirena v Paraguard

I know there has been discussions before, but has anyone gotten one since giving birth to this LO?  In regards to breastfeeding did you see any change in supply?  My appointment is on Thursday so just wanting some opinions!

TIA!

Re: Mirena v Paraguard

  • I FUCKING HELL HATE MIRENA!!!! Seriously, I can not stress how awful it is enough! I had it put in and only kept it in for 3 weeks before it had to go. These were my many problems: Non stop extremely heavy bleeding. Almost dried up my milk gave me acne Gave me insomnia Gave me nausea Uncontrollable crying Terrible bitchy raged Agonizing cramps Night sweats Hubby could feel the wire the one time I sucked it up and tried having sex The shakes Honestly it was the worst experience of my life. I felt like I was going crazy. After having it removed I had the para guard put in. I had some light spotting for about 3 days and no other issues.

  • I have the mirena, the ob at my midwife's office doesn't like inserting para guards not sure why. The mirena has been fine for me, spotting for a week and then nothing. My husband claimed he felt the strings once but I think he was just being paranoid. So far I love it though. After DD I did the mini pill but had a hard time remembering to take it same time every day. It's nice not needing to think about it

This. I hated mine. Made me a bitch. I gained weight. I felt really sluggish running. Acne. Cramps.

  • I love my Mirena!  I had light spotting and cramping for a few days after it was put in, and have since had no issues/side effects.  My supply has been great and I have not noticed a decrease in milk.
  • No advice for OP, but I have a question of those of you who have had mirena were you able to drive after having it put in? I have an appointment for the end of January for possible mirena insertion and I read somewhere you should have someone there to drive you home.

  • You should be just fine to drive. I just felt a little crampy after having mine put in, but I still went on with my day as I normally would. It just felt a little uncomfortable for a day or two.
  • So far I love my Mirena- I think.  I've had light spotting since LO was born.  The spotting went away recently!  I did have a reappearance of spotting and acne, but this was during the week that my co-workers each had their "flow"so I'm guessing it was related.

@INmommy871278 I was able to drive home afterward.  But I had mine put in at my 6 week postpartum checkup, so my cervix was still a little opened up so the insertion wasn't as painful as it could have been.  I know my SIL had hers put in and came to visit us in the hospital before going back to work.

  • I had paragaurd inserted last month...other than period like cramping on the first two days there have been no problems.  I love not having to think about birth control and how it is non hormonal.  The procedure didn't hurt my doctor prescribed a pill the night before to soften the cervix....it was a bit uncomfortable like a papsmear

  • This is my second time having mirena and like the first time I like it just fine. Hubby can occasionally feel the strings if we do it in a certain position but other then that it's been good. I EBF and haven't had any usually troubles in supply. Hormonally I'm pretty much back to myself and my periods and bleeding have stopped. No real complaints other than I didn't labor this time so when I had it put it at 6 weeks pp it hurt like a MO FO!!!!!!!
