Baby's reaction to shots?

My LO has her two month appointment tomorrow for her shots and I just realized that it's probably not the best timing that we plan to have a babysitter for the first time on Saturday. That got me wondering how your baby was after getting shots?

Re: Baby's reaction to shots?

  • M was cranky for 2 days... he also stopped sleeping anywhere but on me and ran a fever.

I should note that the day he got his shots he also woke up with a cold which likely contributed.

  • She cried for a minute when she got the shots, but then four hours later, she was in a lot of pain and started wailing. At that point, we gave her baby Tylenol and she slept for a couple of hours in my arms.
  • SS: The Screamer wasn't fine, but that was normal for him.

  • Mainly, C was just sleepy. I ended up giving her Tylenol three times as she was getting a bit fussy for about 24 hours. The pedi gave me a dosing chart that shows how much to give based on weight.

Baby Girl "C" arrived on 10/07/14 (39 weeks, 6 days)

  • The day of the shots there was a lot of crying/screaming. DD woke up from her naps crying a few times. This was before I heard about giving them Tylenol! The four month shots (coming up for my twins in two weeks) will hopefully be very different.

  • Pretty much the same as @shannonshare‌. DS cried for a minute when he got his shots, slept a long time, then woke up with a pain cry. 1.25ml of baby Tylenol and he was happier and slept pretty well that night. The next day he was totally back to normal.

  • She calmed down pretty quickly after the shots. Then went downhill that evening. She was inconsolable and was in pain. I folded and gave her the Tylenol. She passed out for 10 hours and basically slept the whole next day too.

  • Same as the other PPs that mention Tylenol. A helpful hint: Get the dye free kind so it doesn't stain everything red or purple when they spit it out.
We are so excited to grow our family!

  • DD just got her shots yesterday so I can't be sure but she seems to be doing very well. She screamed when she got them but calmed down within a few minutes. She was drowsy all day so we just snuggled and napped. The worst part was about 3 hours later when she woke up screaming, she must have been in pain because she kept fussing and whimpering for the next hour or so until she fell asleep again. She did have a low fever but I didn't give her Tylenol as it went down quickly on its own. Last night she slept pretty normally in two 3 hour stretches and this morning she's all smiles so I think we lucked out.

  • My DD screamed of course when she got them (only yesterday) she calmed down about 5 min after and slept all afternoon, a good 4 hours after. She was in some pain in the evening and was inconsolable for a bit until we gave her some baby Tylenol.  As of this AM she was a calm happy baby again.

  • Little man cried like a banshee for a minute but then I popped a bottle in his mouth (it was also time to eat) and then he was cool.  He was a little off for a couple of day but nothing major.  No Tylenol was given (plus I was naïve and didn't realize that you could ask the pedi about dosage, guess that is what happens when your kid is one of the oldest here).
  • I clicked cranky for a day but basically she just would not sleep and wanted to eat much more for a day.

  • DD usually had one terrible day either later in the evening or the next day. She would lose.her.shit. and not be consoled for anything. Just screaming nonstop for awhile.  It happened the first 3 rounds of shots.  She usually did get a fever too.

I really dread getting shots for DS.

  • My kid screamed bloody murder for a day. She strained herself so much that she broke blood vessels in her eye...

Though, I had that happen from explosive vomiting the night after a party... Maybe it's genetic.

  • DS actually did great after his shots and acted as if nothing happened. We did have to break up his vaccines though into 2 appointments. Both DH and myself had anaphylactic reactions to pertussis when we were babies and were never able to finish the series. They wanted to be extra cautious with DS getting his shots so we had to do it as a separate appointment and wait there for 2 hours after getting the shot. He did great though.

I don't understand this poll. I mean, all babies are different so what's the point in psyching yourself out or getting stressed over something that may or may not even happen? I understand wanting to try and be prepared in case the baby is cranky or whatever but you don't know if that will happen.

Not trying to be a bitch, just saying.

I'm not psyching myself out. As I said in the OP thinking about it got me wondering how everyone else's babies did. That's all. Thanks for your concern though.

  • Mine was sleepy but that was about it. My husband gave him Tylenol once because he said he felt hot, but that was the only time. He ate and slept as usual that night and the next day.
