November 2013 Moms

Dear moms, heeelp!

I haven't posted in a while and although I searched about it, I found nothing. If the subject had been recently discussed, kindly please send me there;)
So, Matei is still breastfed. :-/ . I know, part of me tells me to wean him, part tells me to keep going as long as we are both happy. And we are.
However, he is waking up in TMOTN way too often, 1-2 times/night. For some people, this might not be as much, but he used it do so when he was smaller, and I imagined that once he's getting solids, he will sleep better. Fast forward, here we are with some "white" nights and a zombie momma and dada.
Is he waking up just for breast comfort??
We tried giving him a bottle ( BM+ goat milk) just to make sure he gets full, but he still wakes up after 2-3 h.
He cries/ fusses, but once we pick him up he stops and he's ready to play :-SS , so I doubt he's teething??
His bed time is 7:30-8pm and he falls asleep by himself, and happy.

I do not know what to think.;(
Please share your experience and tell me to suck it up or give me your advice!
I sooo appreciate your valuable time! :x

Re: Dear moms, heeelp!

  • He sleeps in his own room since he was 3mo.
He does have a lovey and a stary night Vicks projector .
When dad gets up for him, Matei will sometimes go to sleep right after his bottle, but some nights, he wouldn't. He protests and points w his index finger toward the door or the window :-? And than mommy goes in. Can't really let him cry;(((
    Please tell
Me I'm not alone and this shall pass;)
    Thank you!

  • I want to add that last night I gave him water in the bottle, but he wasn't thrilled and started to protest and pull my pj to get the boob #-o
I gave up and let him nurse.

I'm thinking he's not ready to give up his mid-night snacks?? Or should I continue trying to night wean? [-O<
  • Ugh, who knows??? My baby is still up once or twice a night to nurse and snuggle and I just go with it. I'm sure she will sleep someday.

  • Thank you, ladies!
We've decided to continue his night feedings ;;)
I see that many babies continue to eat and nurse at night. I was under the false impression that they are all STTN.;)

Thank you for your honesty and support! ;)
  • We were told by 2 different pediatricians to stop feeding in the middle of the night at 9 months. I decided as a mom that if I thought my child was hungry, I would feed him if he woke up. So I did. And eventually he quit needing to nurse in the middle of the night. Anyway, my point is: take advice from people as you wish, and learn from others, but follow your gut as a mom! We all miss getting a good nights sleep and want to do everything we can to make our child sleep through the night. Keep it up! :)

I was thinking about the sleep issue more and I think I'm going to start offering a small snack like graham crackers or fruit before I nurse her and put her to bed like around 7pm. We usually have dinner at 5:30 or 6 and then she's asleep by 7:30.

I think I started doing that with DD1 around 14 months and it helped with her sleep.
