Swelling feet and legs ;(

While I was at work yesterday my legs and feet began to swell. I sit at a desk all day. Has anyone else had swelling this early? I went to my doctor to be sure to rule out any serious complication and she said everything was ok just to try and stay off of them and prop them up when lying down. Any other suggestions?

Re: Swelling feet and legs ;(

  • Well. I would definitely follow the advice of your doctor because they know what's best.

Watch your salt intake. Once with DS I ate a bag of pretzels and then walked around an outdoorsmans show and my digits swelled up. It was uncomfortable

  • Try to drink more water if you can. Also, try to elevate your legs while you are at your desk.

  • Try straightening your legs out as much as possible when sitting. Getting a good foot and leg rub might help too :)
  • Also try to get up and walk every few hours if possible. I sit at a desk all day and the walking seems to help.
  • I would reduce my sodium intake, increase water, elevate my legs on a box under my desk, and look into getting some compression stockings.

Some women just swell.  Sometimes it is a symptom of BP or other issues too.

Keep and eye on it and try the home remedies listed above to keep it to a minimum.

I wear compression stocking for varicose veins and it really does make a difference.  You can get them OTC or by prescription from your OB.

  • I had a pretty big problem with swelling my last pregnancy.  It hasn't been bad so far this time but I'm sure it's coming.  Everyone else gave the same advice I have.  I'd get up at least every hour, and walk around for just a few minutes and increasing water intake helps too.

  • I have swelling too. So bad my shoes don't fit. Not fun.
  • I'm 22 weeks and when I got home from work yesterday I looked for my ankles for like 5 min. Haha!! They are still really swollen today. I drink a lot of water so I'm hoping to try and stay off my feet this weekend to see if that helps!! Definitely the biggest bummer so far in my pregnancy...hoping it reduces soon! Hang in there ladies
  • You can always try compression socks.

YES! Increase water, decrease salt, try to walk for a few minutes every hour, elevate feet, and wear compression stockings when you are awake. Also cranberry juice is a natural diuretic.
  • I've been wearing diabetic socks on the bad swell days but since works hasn't got me working on the ladder anymore it's not so bad , this is how they looked two weekends ago before a party , now they're kinda normal only a little swollen , had it last pregnancy too .. My blood pressure is fine and no protein in my wee !!
