Cloth Diapering

~~~ Thursday Right? UO's ~~~
Since apparently Stoney has given up her duty of posting this, I'll start.
I <3 you Abby, I really do.  But I find bathing with your kids (or anyone else, for that matter) to be weird and gross.  I also just think baths are gross.
  • Um, not bathing with Abby's kids that is gross.  I mean anyone bathing with their kids.
    I'm probably not helping matters.
    I guess this really goes here more than the other thread:
    Using the current dishcloth to clean anything other than dishes is gross.  Unless you're through cleaning dishes.  Maybe. (H thinks the dishcloth is for cleaning anything, and then you can go right back to washing dishes with it.)
    MH once scrubbed the shower floor with our dish scrubby, then put it back in the sink.  I threw up in my mouth.  So personally I don't find that a UO.
  • I agree with the dishcloth thing. I will wipe down kitchen counters after doing dishes but then that cloth goes into the laundry.
    About bathing with kids, I bathed with DD until she could hold herself up well enough to go in her little bath seat so I don't find it really gross.
  • I personally don't dig the bathing with kids thing, but that's mostly bc I prefer privacy and personal space in the bathroom. My mental dish rag rule is that a rag can be used for washing dishes, then wiping counters, then cleaning the stove top, then spills on the floor (rinsing in bn steps as needed). Any of the steps can be left out, but the order cannot be changed. And I never use a rag that's been wet for than 15 minutes after the last dish was washed. Sponges are good for painting and tile work but never dishes. Sorry, @stringy813‌.
    Wow, you're hardcore, Jane.  I'll use a wet one if it's from the same day and I didn't wash anything particularly gross with it.  I agree with your order, though.
  • I have a friend what would routinely shower with her infant in arms. It just weirded me out at the time. I'm tempted to try it now.
    Though I love a scalding hot shower. So that is problematic.
    Mh has showered with E a few times and it wasn't that gross. But she hated it. To me the shower isn't nearly as weird as the bath tub.
    We just started doing this for his bath time. I love it. So much faster, easier on my back and Grr seems to like it as well.
    OMG, I had to put DS in the shower when our bathtub was out of commission and it was worse than bathing a cat.  He hated it so much!
    E is the same way.  She likes the idea of a shower, but hates the shower.  She did like taking a shower at grandma's.  She has one of those small hand held shower heads (I know there's a joke in there).  E hates water in her eyes and this allowed me to control the shower head more.
    Bonus she thought it was hilarious when I sprayed her down.
  • We shower M with us all the time, he loves it. He just barely started tolerating baths, but hates them by himself. He's probably only had like 5 baths total. It's so much easier to just shower or take a bath with him.
  • @Kelly11235‌ I found this just for you. image
    Actually....that's a pretty good song lol.
  • UO: I get bored every time I try to read a Jane Austen novel and have never finished any of them. I like books/movies based on characters who love her stories (like Austenland and You've Got Mail)
    and the stage productions of her novels, but the books themselves bore me. Sorry @unaveragejane‌ but your screen name and seeing your beautiful teacups made me think of this.
  • I'm feeling a sense of deja vu with this bath conversation.
    I like to rinse all the soap and shampoo and stuff off in the shower after taking a bath, but my current setup makes that pretty inconvenient.
    If I ever build my dream home someday I want to incorporate a Japanese-style bath into it. It would be something like a wetroom shower with one of those cute little soaker tubs. So you could shower off and get clean first, and then have a hot soak.
  • @freezorburn‌ One or the houses we are looking at has a tub inside the shower. I thought that was soooo weird and was trying to figure out how to repurpose it.
    Explain this more for people who are clueless?
    I seriously have no better way to explain this.  It's a walk-in shower, and at the back of it, there's a jacuzzi tub built into the tile, like where a bench would be.  But it's inside the shower enclosure.  I thought I could use it as a planter.
    So you would have like a mini rain forest in your shower? And you think that's cleaner than taking a bath?
  • Here's the sort of thing that you would see at a Japanese hot spring/spa. So, for a home obviously you would scale it down. The idea is that you scrub yourself clean before you take your soak, and if it's done right you can also have a view of the natural (or manmade) landscape.
  • Here's another way to do it -- the bathtub is fully enclosed in the shower stall, so whatever floor gets wet is designed to drain anyway.
  • At our old house, the master bathroom had a jetted tub/shower combo. I absolutely hated it b/c jetted tubs are such a PITA to clean, and since this one got used daily for showers, it was even harder and required cleaning every week. Ugh.
    Oh yes.  Jetted tubs.  I love baths, but I hate Jacuzzi tubs.  I don't find the bubbles relaxing, I hate the noise and I feel like the jets are basically little petri dishes.
    LOL! No, I knew what you meant. I have to be in the right mood for Jane Austen, but I have probably read Jane Eyre half a dozen times.
  • I like bubbly tubs.
    I also like boys and would love another. DH has agreed to a third because he thinks he wants a daughter. Nope, I'm just going to have another boy. Because I totally have control over that kind of stuff.
