OB or PCP?

I had a cold followed by bronchitis about 9 weeks ago. I feel fine now but I am still coughing up mucus. The cough gets better every day and mucus lessens, but I'm worried maybe I have a more serious issue (chronic bronchitis, asthma, etc) because this cough has been around so long. I've been told excess mucus production and coughing can be normal during pregnancy. I am wondering who to see about this. Should I go to OB in case it is a pregnancy related symptom or PCP in case it is an unrelated illness? Thanks for your advice!

  • I call my OB and they tell me to 1) come in, 2) make an appt with primary care, 3) go to urgent care clinic, or 4) go to ER
  • Agree with PPs. Your OB will always want you to call them first, then they will tell you if you need to go elsewhere.

  • I would see my primary care doc, but you can certainly call to let the OB know and ask their advice but I think they'll likely advise you to call your primary since it's likely just respiratory.
