TTC After a Loss

NTTCALR: Hubby quirks

As I puttered through the bathroom this morning, cleaning up after my hubby as I always do, I once again got to wondering what goes on in his head. Does he think the hand towel magically re-hangs itself on its own every morning, or his shaver just jumps up onto tiny little feet and hops back into the charging cradle after use every day?  How can he not notice that SOMEONE does it for him every day?  He doesn't even think about it I'm sure, but it makes me chuckle.  Running joke in our house is how unobservant he is, he never notices anything, can never find something even if it stares him in the face, and forgets or loses his phone somewhere in the house at least twice a day.

So, what kind of 'hubby quirks' do you deal with that just make you shake your head?

  • Lol, at least you're nice enough to clean up after him! MH get's "every man for himself"ed.

It's quite frustrating, but MH has a habit of, huh, how to explain it... he's basically "mean" to those he cares about the most. It's not as bad as it sounds, I promise, just hard to get used to sometimes lol. Like he tells the dog he hates him, but then cuddles with him under the covers in bed. Or he'll tell me he's going out and won't bring me anything, but then brings me home my favorite treat. That sort of thing.
It's kind of funny, because the less he likes you, the nicer he is to you. So if he's all honey and sweetness, he basically hates you lol
I had a coworker like this, he loved to tease and be sarcastic, he was a hoot to work with, but he'd always say the day he stopped bugging you is the day you'd know he didn't like you or you'd pissed him off, if he was super nice to someone he despised them.

  • DH tends to leave his dirty clothes in the bathroom and on the floor next to his side of the bed. I always put them in the laundry basket when I'm getting ready in the morning (I leave for work first). Also, we keep our recycling bin in our basement utility room, so I usually bring recyclables from our kitchen down to the bin. Lastly, I refill our dog's water bowl and give her food every morning-- DH has forgotten a few times, so I've taken it upon myself to make sure she's fed and hydrated!

MH takes his dirty clothes, folds them, and puts them on the edge on the end of the bed. When laundry times comes Sunday, I have no idea wtf is clean or dirty because HE FOLDS DIRTY CLOTHES.  :-q

When he trims his beard he either does it in the sink or over the toilet. He never cleans it up! I sat down on the toilet one day and had his beard hair all over my ass.

And he's part of the "powered nuts mafia". He also does that over the toilet and it get EVERYWHERE. The other morning I went to the bathroom after I had gotten dressed for work and my black work pants were half white :|

  • MH can't find anything. The man does not look - but can't find it. Drive me nuts because I usually need 10 seconds to find it. I tell him, if I find it in the next 10 seconds, you owe me X (whatever strikes my fancy).

He also has trouble finding the hamper and putting away his coats. I usually play pick up so I can do the laundry. Seems to be a common issue for men!

He's super anal about electronics and finances. I think my slight OCD drives him a little crazy though too

  • Lol @furrypaws! Love it! In addition to all the stuff I previously listed, DH is terrible about putting stuff in the dishwasher or scrubbing pots and such, so I usually end up clearing out the sink.

He also never, ever, ever wipes up the stove/counters after he cooks. God forbid I leave a dish in the sink on my lunch break, but pretty much every morning after he leaves for work, I have to scrub the counter tops and stove top of all the crap crusted on from where he cooked dinner and breakfast. (I don't cook. I work about a bajillion hours more a week than he does, so he handles grocery shopping and cooking.) In college, I would go over to the house he lived in with 4 other dudes, and he'd swear the state of the kitchen was his roommates' fault, but I know better now.

I love him, but geez louise, after 10 years, you rack up some gripes. ;)
Oh, my husband does this too!!!  I hate cleaning up after he cooks.

Are they in your living space?? I had a complete fiber glass front end in my living room for months...
Yes, that has been the case on occasion. :(  We also have 6 cars and our cars are what brought us together. It has gotten better since he got his business and we can store things at the shop. If he had the space for it at the shop and it was in my living room, I wouldn't be happy!

  • Mh cannot find anything. He looks and doesn't see it. I can tell him without looking where whatever he is looking for is. If he says we are out of let's say dish soap. I tell him to check the basement shelves. He goes, we're out. Then I take him down and show him the 3 soaps on the shelf at eye level.

His way of putting away clean dishes involves leaving pots, pans, storage containers sitting out bc he doesn't know where they go. We've been in our house 3.5yrs! I've never reorganized since we unpacked.

And all the things he can't find just miraculously appear stocked in the house. Some magical elf makes sure we never run out of toilet paper, shampoo, dog food..sigh.

  • Hi GS!!!  Nice to see you!

MH has to have the volume at an even number.  If I put it on a 7, he will have to turn it up or down.  He also shakes everything before he buys it.  Vitamins, give it a little shake!  Soup, shake it up! Legos, he can shake those for hours.  So weird.
Nice to see you too!  I have to admit I'm the same about the volume, I can't stand to have it on an odd number, and I have absolutely no idea why.  :|

  • Oh this is fun!

DH lovvvvvves to make a slice of toast w/ PB on it in the AM and let the dogs lick the knife. Then he puts it on the counter w/ PB and dog slobber. Really?!

His boxers are flung everywhere in the bathroom. Then the dogs rip them apart.

He has never once vacuumed even though he ruff-houses (get it??ha!) with the dogs and makes a HUGE disaster because our rug pills.

He also can't go grocery shopping alone. He comes home with beer, ice cream, chicken, granola bars, and coffee.

  • I could go on and on but I'll pick the top 2.  DH likes to take off his socks, fold them together and then throw them across the room. He'll eventually picked them up and throw them in the hamper-folded. I get annoyed when I find them and have to unfold them, especially when I don't find them until after I washed them.
DH also likes to trim his beard over the sink but he'll wipe down the sink with a towel and then leave the towel on the counter. So when I come in, wash my face and wipe down the counter with that same towel, there's beard hair everywhere!

  • DH does much of what all of your husbands do, but he also fails to wipe off the counter where he has made a mess. The biggest issue with this is that the color of our counters makes it almost impossible to spot - until you've got coffee grounds or toast crumbs or peanutbutter all over you.

  • @rslh10 OMG the multiple water glasses is ME!!!!! I seriously took down at least 10 (don't judge me) glasses 1/4 filled with water just the other day.

@heartbot MH is also an electronic hoarder. I have a clear game boy from circa 1997 that he won't get rid of. We also have a HUGE box of just cords... I mean a 3 x 3 x 2 foot box...

AFM, my gripe isn't about what he DOES it is about what he DOESN'T do. We've never NEVER been on vacation. He will not spend any money on anything then gets mad at me when I spend money on myself. Then, he won't create a budget to help us with our spending. So I'm in charge of all our bills and expenses but get a periodic audit on our account. Plus he has an alert on our back account so it texts him if our checking gets below a specific amount. He isn't controlling with money, but just gets crabby and stressed about it. Drives me NUTTY. I'm a free spirit and not so worried about finances because I trust I won't make us broke, but he is in another universe.

That being said, I leave the dresser drawers open and leave shit laying around all the time. I think those things send him into orbit, so I guess we're even!

I will admit that I do some quirky things that drive my H insane. TBH if it weren't for us picking up each others slack all the time we would live in a world with dirty dishes that are piled up, dirty laundry on the floor, and clean un-fabric softened laundry lying in a basket unfolded on the floor among other things.
    This sounds like us.

  • MH can be a real pain, and he is lucky I love him. He constantly leaves his clothes on the bedroom floor. The laundry room is downstairs, and sometimes I will find piles of clothes at the foot of the steps. I suppose I should be glad he makes an effort. He leaves his hair all over the sink when he shaves. I find dirty dishes in his "man cave" every day. My H also is super nice to strangers, but he can be a total butthead to the people he loves. He is kind of a smart arse.
Also, I'm mad at him right now, so this may be affecting my response to this post.
