Pregnant after IF

If you became pregnant on Clomid, how many medicated cycles did it require?

I hope it's ok to post here - I looked for board guidelines but did not see any. I spend most of my time on TTTC and TTGP.

Quick intro: TTC 2+ years without treatment. I am supposed to start Clomid (with monitoring) next cycle. HSG, SA, and all bloodwork is normal except slight hypothyroidism (treated w/Synthroid, levels are now normal) and I have been diagnosed with "ovulatory dysfunction NOS". DH and I are looking to make some major life decisions and these decisions would be much easier if we had an idea of our timeline or our likelihood of success (obviously, we know anything is possible and it's impossible to plan, but a more complete idea of our chances would be very helpful). I'm just wondering, for those of you who had success with Clomid, how long it took! Thanks in advance!

  • I got Pregnant on my 2nd cycle of Clomid the first time around, but had a MMC. . I got pregnant again the second time on the first cycle of Clomid, and resulted with DD.  For second Child we did few cycles with Clomid and Femara, and but it didn't work.

SS bc we got pregnant on our first clomid (+TI) try but our issue was MFI (6 mil/ml, 12% progressive motility, 0% morph). I never had an ovulation issue but our RE thought it might increase targets for the sperm (which it didn't... I ovulated one follie on my own early so this was a total miracle). Maybe the clomid helped in some subtle way? Not sure.... I'm telling you my story but I didn't vote in your poll for fear it would skew your results.

FWIW, Clomid didn't work for my best friend with PCOS, but injectibles worked on, I think, her 2-3 try.

  • With DS it took 4 clomid + TI cycles. If I remember correctly, I ovulated on 2 of the 4 cycles and had to induce cycles in between. When TTC #2, I got pregnant the first cycle, but had a miscarriage. I ovulated on the next 3 cycles on it, but had BFN's. Good luck!

  • I have ovulatory dysfunction too, and Clomid didn't work very well for me. I had to stair-step my Clomid dose both Clomid cycles, and neither resulted in pregnancy. Both of those cycles were long and frustrating, so I moved onto injects & IUI after that. That resulted in an ectopic pregnancy. Then I was benched for 3 months and conceived this pregnancy on IVF #1.

In terms of timelines, it took about 9 months from the beginning of my first Clomid cycle until the end of the cycle where we were successful, and we were pretty aggressive with moving forward with treatment.

  • We did 3 cycles of femara with iui which is very similar to clomid (less side effects I was told) and none worked so we moved onto IVF. My RE said for most people that it works on it will work within 3-4 times. I ovulated 2 eggs each time so it was "working" just didn't work out and we weren't willing to waste any more time.

    Good luck!
