Starting to panic about breastfeeding

I have to admit I haven't been keeping up with my water intake, so idk if that's what started this but I keep having to switch breasts between feedings bc it seems like lo isn't getting enough. I'm also pumping a significantly less amount than I was before (went from 14 oz all together to about 8 oz). I was just so proud of myself for making it to the 3 month mark on Sunday, I hope I'm not losing my supply!
And I hope I'm not pregnant but that's a different subject altogether

Re: Starting to panic about breastfeeding

  • Is lo gong through a growth spurt? Mine did last week and I didn't know if my boobs were going to keep up. She was eating every hour or two, 3 at night. I was pumping less, because she was eating more. It lasted around 4 days and now we're doing better.

  • I hope that's the case. He's been eating every 2-3 hours regularly with a 5-8 hour stretch at night. He already had a growth spurt last week. At 3 months he's already 27 inches long. I can't wait to see how much he weighs. He's grown 2 inches since his 2 month check up

  • I went throught this same thing last week. (My dd is almost 12 weeks) by the end of the day I my boobs felt very empty. It only lasted about a week and then they were fine. Hopefully it's just your boobs having to regulate again.
  • 27 inches?! Whoa! I do an unofficial weigh in by holding her and weighing us together, then just myself and subtracting. She gained 2.5 lbs during her growth spurt last week.

  • @RoniH718‌ - haha actually the vet told me to the do it with the dog. We got him and he was really overweight... I just figured it worked for the dog why not the baby.

  • I agree about it probably being a growth spurt. My LO who turned 3 months Monday has been eating more and added back in his MOTN feeding after STTN for a couple weeks. As long as LO has enough wet diapers they should be good but if you are truly worried you can make an appointment with your LC to do a weighed feeding.

  • @ArkansasMom22‌ I just changed out the membranes today and I'll see if the flange change will help too. Thanks :)

  • I agree with the growth spurt whenever I know I'm going to be busy or if I'm stressing I'll have my Fenugreek supplements you get them pretty cheap at any pharmacy and they help boost your supply. I take 2 a day but I think I read you could go up to either 4 or 6 a day. BTW it will make you smell god awful!!

  • I was under the impression that it was around the 3 month mark that your body stopped producing milk based on a hormonal drive, and started really focusing on what kind of demand signals it was getting. If this is the case then baby may be nursing like a mad person to make sure your body doesn't think it's done nursing.

But I could be talking out of my butt here..

Also have you restarted your cycle? I took a nose dive about 5 days before Aunt Flo showed up.

You can actually take up to 15 pills a day of Fenugreek. My LC told me I needed to be taking at least 9 for it to make a difference (3 pills 3x a day). I've been taking 12 a day since 3 weeks postpartum. They're a natural diuretic, though, and as you mentioned make you stink like maple syrup. I wouldn't be taking them if I didn't have a low supply (before I started them I was only producing enough for half of DD's intake).

  • @mana8503‌ good, I actually felt full this morning and yesterday so it probably was a growth spurt. I'm gonna take mother's milk tea again bc it's been almost a month since I stopped.

  • *silent lurker finally posting*

I was worried about supply early on & found a lactation cookie recipe that increased my supply so much that I had over-supply issues. I don't eat the cookies anymore, but some of you might find them helpful...

I'll admit, it isn't the healthiest cookie recipe, but it does increase your supply & it's a great tasty snack you can quickly grab.

  • @paloma760‌ I can't take lactation cookies bc Brewers yeast gives me migraines :-/ also, are you in North County? Only asking bc of your screen name

  • I am not in north county, @RoniH718‌.

damn re: migraines :-/ the other 2 ingredients in the cookies that help boost your supply are oatmeal & flax seed. I have a bowl of oatmeal every morning. for extra umph, you can sprinkle flax seed into it. or almond slivers...

  • At about three months ur breasts settle into the supply ur baby has been eating. U will feel like ur not getting full but thats because its only producing what baby needs. Dont worry ur baby will tell u of its not enough. The more they suckle the bigger ur supply will become. Our bodies amazing and they know what to do
