relief from cramps?

Hi all! So I've been experiencing some intense cramps and pressure that woke me up at 5:30 this morning. I put in a call to my doctor and he says to wait until they become more regular and see if they intensify. They went away for a little while (or else I didnt notice them) so I managed to sleep some more. Right now, they are random and bearable. I don't have menstrual cramps normally (I know I'm lucky). My question is has anyone found a way to get a little relief in the meantime (even positions or movements to relieve the pressure?) All I can think of is to drink a lot of water. I'm really hoping this is prelabor but only time will tell. TIA!

  • I've been dealing with the same problem for the past few days. Warm showers/bath, and cat/cow position have given a little bit of relief. Hope you feel better soon, too!
  • Thanks girls! Good to know this can last a while @Serunatu‌ . I tried looking up how long the cramping might be but everything says something different. I'm glad you are finding some relief!

  • @JCM285, my doctor (and a few ladies on here) mentioned the cramps could be your body's way of prepping for delivery. You could be dilating or thinning. I had an exam yesterday after the cramps had started for a couple days and there was no progress from my last exam-BUT I still like to think of the cramps as productive instead of just a pain!
  • @Serunatu‌ I am so hoping that's what it is. I haven't made any progress in dilating lately (one cm over past three weeks) and I'm set up for an induction on Tuesday. Heres hoping we are both currently making some progress (you just never know!)

    Great luck with the induction!!
  • Agreed @katylou91‌ on not knowing whether they are true contractions either. I took a childbirth class a while ago and my notes say that sometimes contractions can be mistaken for cramps so I guess its best to just see whether they intensify. My doctor said to wait until you have to "breathe through" your contractions so I am going by that for now. GL at your doctor!

My labour started with period like cramps and progressed into full blown contractions about 6 hours later. Another 14 hours later, I had my daughter. This post got me excited because it sounds so similar to how my labour started! Obviously, I know it could be nothing, but keep us posted?
  • Take a bath. Run warm water over your belly... or have someone do it for you.
This sounds like the beginning of a mellow porno.  Maybe I shall go home early, fill my bathtub with warm water and yell for my husband.  Bow chicka bow bow!

  • Really glad you asked this. I woke up with cramps last night too! I was so uncomfortable, but I knew I couldn't do what I normally do for period cramps (heat pad on the belly and advil). I had a few contractions, but nothing very regular. The night before I did have contractions 8 min apart for about an hour. I think things are getting ready down there!

  • Thanks for sharing that @VMac1984‌. I really hope my experience is similar to yours as I would love to avoid having this scheduled induction next week. If anything progresses,I will definitely include an update :-)
